Yes, Happy Birthday and Happy Thanksgiving Sheri and all.  I have been down
with the flu for the past couple of days...was in bed or on the couch most of
the day yesterday.  My body aches all over.  I'm going to take some aspirin and
bite the bullet so I can try and cook today...hubby is all thumbs in the
kitchen.

Have a good Thanksgiving!

What did George have to do with it?  The FDA did not approve some of the
batches that the pharmacutial <sp> made up so they had to be destroyed
Sjhamina - 26 Nov 2004 03:24 GMT
On the news the other day they said that in 2000 there were 4 major
manufacturers of the flu vaccine. Thanks to GWB there was only ONE and they had
problems LAST year with contamination.......same thing that happened THIS year.
GWB had a LOT to do with it. If you dont believe me, ask Lu.
GWB is hell bent on destroying America and doing a pretty damn good job of it.

This is the first I heard of JWB having anything to do wit flu  vaccine.  I
don't do flu  vaccine so I don't keep on top of why there isn't enough.  Just
going by what my doctor told me as to why there was shortage.  As a matter of
fact she seemed glad that the FDA was being so cautious     about it.  Also, so
many people are pissed at GWB that they seem to be blaming him for everything
so it is hard to know what is fact.  This is a case where I would have to see
proof because alot of stuff is urban legend and alot is based on people's
personal opinions.

You told me you don't follow politics very closely.  Jules and I do and YES, it
was GWB who was behind this.  If he can't even protect his country from the flu
virus, can you imagine how he is going to protect us from bio-terrorism???
Sad!!

Eat vegetables, get lots of Vitamin C, wash your hands and don't go out too
much!!  Hopefully, that will prevent the spreading of the flu.  Do your x-mas
shopping online this year.

hearing so much blame placed on GWB it makes me wonder.

I don't believe in flu vaccine  but if you take it and your body gets used to
needing it it is better to always take it.
Sjhamina - 26 Nov 2004 18:59 GMT
I usually have to get a flu shot. I have asthma and diabetes and normally
worked in the health care industry.
One flu bug can kill a ton of old folks real quick and you dont need the staff
spreading it around.

The way I understand it is:
One of the main reasons we always have a "shortage" is because we order only
a certain amount. Isn't it odd how Canada has flu vaccine? That's because
they buy it and stockpile it. They have plenty. Our current administration
has been so hell bent on sending our tax dollars overseas, we're going to
have people die this year of something ridiculous and preventable. My
daughter lucked out because she was a preemie and fell into the age
category. I could have gotten one because I have asthma but I figured give
it to the elderly or babies, ya know?

>One of the main reasons we always have a "shortage" is because we order only

Wendy;

What happened was YES, we ordered a certain amount - from a certain company in
Britain that had a bad track record for drug production.  The problem was, half
the batch this company produced was "spoiled" hence, the problem with our
shortage.

As for Canada, my understanding is that Americans who live right on the
Canadian Border can simply walk across to any pharmacy and pay $20 for the flu
vaccine.  I even know of certain sites online that will sell it and ship it to
you from overseas but I wouldn't put my trust in that.
Lori - 27 Nov 2004 16:06 GMT
Wendy,
I live on the border and if it was so easy to walk across to Canada
I would walk there all the time. You can't just walk across the
Bluewater Bridge. Haven't been able to walk or ride a bike over there in
years. They built a second bridge next to the Bluewater Bridge and it
didn't help with the traffic flow. The wait at the bridge takes forever
now. Traffic is always backed up. You can't just get a flu shot over
there now. At first they said they would let any US citizen get one now
they have made specific changes on who can get it.
LuanneP - 27 Nov 2004 20:19 GMT
>You can't just get a flu shot over

I saw a story on the news where Americans living in Vermont and NY were simply
dialing up pharmacies to make "appointments" then crossing the next day to get
their shots.  I don't know if you're aware of it Lori, but in some areas of the
US, crossing the border is a matter of just driving down a road to cross into
Canada...it's not like it is in the Detroit area everyplace....kinda like the
Mexican border.  The simply do not have enough guards to watch over the whole
Canadian border...it's much too long.
Sjhamina - 27 Nov 2004 20:43 GMT
Thats why all the good weed is coming in from Canada. Its so much easier to get
it across the border. No fences and no Rio Grande.
I was watching one program that showed all the good BC budd they were growing
and how they used GPS and all kinds of tracking equipment to get it across.
Some had timers so the signal popped up and someone would rush to get it before
the border patrol got to it.
They had a kayak, filled with weed......dude paddled his happy a.s right across
to the US from Vancouver. Big grin on his face all the way! lol

Lori - 28 Nov 2004 02:50 GMT
I don't live in Detroit, I do live where you have to cross a bridge
unless I move out of state, which I am not willing to do. I don't get
the shot, never have. Still, the newspaper here posted from Canada that
they have cracked down and don't just give them to anybody now.
LuanneP - 28 Nov 2004 13:54 GMT
>I don't live in Detroit, I do live where you have to cross a bridge
>unless I move out of state,

You're not far from there though, right?  Don't you live in the thumb area?
Lori - 28 Nov 2004 16:25 GMT
Yeah, I'm in the thumb. With the twin bridge, it didn't make a
difference for traffic flow. It is worse then ever to cross. Early
morning, evening and from Fri. to Sun. it is not worth the trouble going
their. Traffic can be backed up for miles. I could be over the flu if I
got it before I could get across to Canada. If I'm not is taken it is
somewhat quicker to get there through Detroit.
LuanneP - 28 Nov 2004 22:15 GMT

I haven't been to Canada in YEARS!!  Hubby is not as adventurous as I am.  I
even like going to downtown Detroit when I am in MI, but the rest of my
family/friends are too "chicken" to go with me.  Last time, I took the bus
downtown and had to switch buses to go to the Detroit Public Library.  I was
the only white person on the bus...I really stood out!!  LOL  Since I generally
spend most of my time in "fight and flight" response, I'm not too afraid to go
anyplace, even alone.
Lori - 29 Nov 2004 00:29 GMT
Last time I was in Detroit I went to the Joe to watch the Redwings
(sigh) play. No NHL this year so I won't be going this year. I love
Gibraltar's tho but have not been their this year either.
Lori - 29 Nov 2004 00:22 GMT
Jules,
If ya haven't been across the Bluewater Bridge in years you are in for a
real treat, NOT.

>What did George have to do with it?  The FDA did not approve some of the
>batches that the pharmacutial <sp> made up so they had to be destroyed

Bush and FDA cohorts went with a company that had a BAD track record for
pharmaceutical production.  Many elderly and others will get sick and possibly
die because of this minor "mishap" yet people in Canada and other countries
have plenty of flu shots to go around, no problem.  Bush had everything to do
with it.
LuanneP - 26 Nov 2004 12:35 GMT
>Bush and FDA cohorts went with a company that had a BAD track record for
>pharmaceutical production.

I forgot to add that the company that Bush and FDA went with that had the bad
"track record" is based over in England. Seems that half the flu vaccine batch
'went bad' and had to be thrown away.

I don't care so much for myself, but for the elderly and sick who NEED the flu
vaccine, I do feel for.  My in-laws who are both in their mid-70's need this
vaccine because they have not been in the best of health in the past couple of
years.  Some folks don't realize that the elderly can actually die from the
flu.  People like me, we just complain, gripe, and suffer with it until it is
gone.  Not only that, there are different strains of it, so you can get it more
than once.

I agree about the elderly.  My parents both got shots.  I never get them so it
didn't matter to me. My friend is all bent out of shape over it.  A healthy 43
yr old guy is pissed because of no flu shot.  Unbelieveable.
Sjhamina - 26 Nov 2004 19:04 GMT
It may not matter to you now but what about 20-30 years from now?
The flu kills many people each year, more than smoking deaths if you can
believe that, more than car crashes ect.

Johnny - 26 Nov 2004 20:10 GMT
My concern is what they put in the vaccines besides what is suppose to be in
them.  Nobody knows the long-term effects of these shots, and with the way
the pharmaceutical companies are killing and hurting people...

So you believe in NO vaccines period?  I've heard that a lot of people don't
get their children immunized like they used to and some areas in the world have
been seeing a comeback of smallpox and German Measles....German Measles doesn't
necessarily kill a person but if you get around a pregnant woman and she gets
her, the fetus most likely ends up being born with some sort of deformity from
it.  I think we take a chance with anything we do but to go without important
immunizations can be somewhat foolish.  Now me, I never got a flu shot until
last year for the first time.  I also got a tetanus shot though, which was a
good thing being that I stepped on a nail this summer and got cut on a rusty
barbed-wire fence when I was out picking berries...Thank God for that.

This thread was originally about flu shots and not vaccines in general.  I
think there are people who need the flu vaccines, because of their
professions, or because of some kind of medical need, but not everybody
needs a damn flu shot.  Scaring people into paying for something they don't
really need is a huge profit maker for the companies who produce them.  As
for the vaccines in general that are required for kids, there is speculation
now that the huge increase in autism may be due to the preservatives being
used in the vaccines.  I'm sure everyone remembers thalidomide babies... I
am allergic to tetanus shots, and haven't had one since I was about 8 years
old.
LuanneP - 27 Nov 2004 00:17 GMT
>Scaring people into paying for something they don't

That's true but I know here in FL, when the flu vaccine IS available, seniors
can get them free at the local supermarkets!  I agree with you though, only
those who fall into the high-risk categories should get them, especially
seniors or those who have breathing disorders/problems.  For you and me and the
rest of the general public, no.
LuanneP - 27 Nov 2004 00:18 GMT
> I

I myself am allergic to a lot of antibiotics, including erythromycin,
macrodantin and sulfa drugs....I look like I have the measles if I take 'em and
get pretty darn sick on top of it.
Sjhamina - 27 Nov 2004 20:23 GMT
I had German Measles when I was less than a year old......my mom was pregnant
with my sister.
My sister had to have open heart surgery in 1966 right after she was born. She
is deaf in one ear (cant hear out of the other either lol) She just had her
thyroid removed a couple years ago. She had a speech problem and wore pretty
thick glasses when she was a kid.

They say that smallpox may be what wipes out our planet. I cant remember when
they stopped vaccinating for smallpox but I can tell you this, the US doesnt
have enough of that vaccine either.

We had 120 patients and shipped out 12 in body bags within a few weeks. The
elderly population, especially in nursing homes, can't handle it.
I was watching the news (I get the Nashville station) Vanderbilt's childrens
hospital didn't have enough vaccine to immunize their critically ill children
let alone the staff that were taking care of them that could spread it.
One little kid had a heart transplant, no flu vaccine.......one flu bug and
that child is a goner.

All around the world we are known as DUM Americans.  hum? you think Georgie has
anything to do with that? LOL LOL

Now that he is in office, it has left our country open like a sore wound.
This country has for 4 more years
of poverty, terror, sky rocketing gas prices
no Jobs AND Just a sh.t more load of bad things, this Georgie is also known to
be one of the worst president of the United States.

Georgie New that if there was a War, it was highly unlikely that a new
president
would have been elected in office, reason being, in War time, American are not
known for voting a new guy in office at War Time.

I am agaisnt us being in Irag, we will be there another maybe 10 to 20 year.
Just think how many more vactions Georgie will be going on, he has to get alot
more of them in, he only has 4 more years.
Thank God he will be out of office!
Another thing
Bush takes his Christianity into a Muslims
society, and you wonder why these people hate us?

Him and Papa have ties to Sadi's
Dont you think son would make sure his papa contiunes to make a sh.t load of
money?

Its the chiristains and the rich that voted geroge into office.

I really can't wait to see georgie step into a big pile a sh.t, because sooner

I say let Georgie's and Jeb's sons and daughters go fight in Iraq!!  They are
all of age, let George see first hand what it is like to lose a child in a war.
Maybe he'd stop and think then!!  I was a woman who went into the military -
let Georgie's daughters join and see what it is like.  They wouldn't last one
day in boot camp, believe me!!!
