My 21 year old daughter is considering being legally adopted by her
step-father (my husband).  Would anyone care to comment on the ramifications
of adoption in a situation like this?  She is contingent beneficiary on his
insurance plans, heir to his estate, etc. so there doesn't seem to be a
pressing legal reason...or is there something I'm missing?

Her reasoning is emotional; her bio father is an abusive person and after
years of trying and hoping for a change in his nature she has given up.
This would be for symbolic rather than legal reasons.

Thanks for input.

I think it's a great idea and can't think of any ramifications. I have to
imagine that doing so would be good for her well being and your husbands as
well. :c)
