Chosenchildinc1 - 27 Jan 2005 13:54 GMT This group used to be so much fun, remember Scom, Lisa boo, duckster, Sue T., Veronica Moronica..?.......We used to laugh so hard we couldn't breathe, coffee was spewing onto keyboards on a daily basis...........
Here is one of my favorites.....
Dear Birthmother,
Hi, our names are Janet and Bob, and we really want to adopt your baby. Let us start by introducing ourselves, I met Bob eight years ago when he was a Freshman at Yalee University, not Yale, yes I meant Yalee. Bob had flunked out of every Math and English course that he ever took, so he decided to go into computers. I met him at a frat party, I don't remember what happened after the purple passion drinks, but I do remember that he got kicked out of the frat house and moved in with me. I was a beauty student and wanted to do acrylic nails, I had no idea the girl who sat next to me was dealing crank, but, well the school got shut down. Bob and I have been off and on again for eight years and got married two years ago. That was the only way we could get the benefits.
Bob now cleans computers at the Bank and I clean restrooms for fast food restaurants. We work staggered shifts so someone should always be at home with your baby, well most of the time. Bob and I have a relationship based on infidelities, (that trollop), dis-respect, (he has a big mouth), chaos, (we are almost bankrupt), and abuse, (he got probation).. We do get along when we drink however. We are hoping that your baby will help us salvage the relationship, it's our last chance before the big D..
I am not infertile, I just hate sex, and I don't think Bob likes women that much anyway. Our family wants us to have a baby, they need someone to help with the chores, but grandma doesn't want to get involved, she has 39 grandchildren already. We plan on putting the child in day care as soon as it is born, so it will have proper attention.
Our house is rented in a mediocre neighborhood, and our school system is rated 49 out of the 50 states. We are hoping to buy in a trailer park, but we can't scrape together the $800 for the down payment. We do have a portable crib that can sit on the couch for your baby. We also will be eligible for WIC so the baby will be well fed.
Why are we advertising on the internet? Well, that is a good question, we don't have the money to adopt really, we can't afford the legal fees, agency or facilitator fees, we can't even afford a postage stamp, so we are appealing to those who may come by here to give us a chance. If you place your baby with us we promise a lackluster education, the basest of health care, cheap fast food, hand me down clothes, and walks through a park with crack vials all around. Our neighborhood is not great. So, why should you place with us? Because this is the only HONEST birthmother letter you will ever read, and that's a promise. We also really want a baby. Please call me at 1-800- gottahave1, and please call collect. Oh, by the way, we are TOTALLY Christian.
Janet

Dad - 28 Jan 2005 04:08 GMT Connie pops up now and then on the AOL boards. I do miss Lisa Boo and that lobster of hers. Ghoula was unparalled in her talent for sarcasm and wit. I'm not sure why, but every time SueT posted I had a mental picture of Miss Jane Hathaway. Benign neglect, my arse.
Henry, our resident poet, reminded me a lot of our J. for his high standards and talent for treating everyone with civility and fairness. Barb Morra was at least entertaining, I'll give her that much. Lori Carackangelo. Playroy. Bill Pierce, god rest his soul. Alex, the mighty sheep guy from New Jersey. I wish Fiend would post more often.
I think the funniest thread on this newsgroup was the chicken/egg parody a few years back.
But despite the loss of a handful of quality regulars, we've still got Marley. Alone, she's worth the price of admission. Not to mention the dozen or so regulars who are worth the time to read. I'd name them, but I would invariably leave someone out.
I think a lot of credit for keeping the newsgroup active goes to Marla for posting adoption related articles everyday.

But I agree; it's still a good group. "Cheers" by any other name... Rupa
sylak - 28 Jan 2005 12:58 GMT > But I agree; it's still a good group. "Cheers" by any other name... > Rupa Being somewhat poor at written expression I do not post very much. I also have precious little time for researching issues of interest in the wide world of adoption. This makes the efforts by those who do explore the issues so much more valuable to a semi-lurker such as me. Thanks.

I've been experimenting with posting articles on google on and off for that last few weeks with all the AOL crap going on, and it's a real PITA. grrr.

I do hope you're not going to quit. Google's not at all bad once yopu get used to it...and a lot better than it used to be.

I don't know if they showed up elsewhere, so I'm reluctant to post them again. It's pretty annoying though.
I spent a lot of time downloading Forte Free Agent today and trying to configure it through that German place Robin sent the link to. I'm a real doofus with this stuff, and I've just about given up. Blech.

I could use a vacation from school already ;-)

Chosenchildinc1 - 29 Jan 2005 08:07 GMT Well Ltl, I wrote the dear birthmother letter and I received many kudos for it, duckster was always happy to get a good laugh, and Lisa Boo and I had many hysterical moments, I am in the AA hall of fame........placed there by Boo, Gee, I have never seen you post anything that would bring a smile..........
Prove me wrong, re=post some positive, funny, articles that you have contributed. By the way, as bawdy as it was, I was Mrs. Silk Dick, and that was funny.

I'm sorry. I'm trying to quit smoking <again> and I'm cranky as hell.

I'm trying to quit smoking <again> and I'm cranky as hell. Ah. The assistance Mr Dick offered might not make quitting smoking easier, but might help with crankiness bit...here is an excerpt from his original post.
"Hello. My name is Richard (Dick) Silk.
"I realize that some of you women out there would like to experience the joys of Motherhood, yet you'd prefer to have a biological child of your own as opposed to enduring the enormous bureaucracy and unknown factors which come from adoption, or perhaps you feel that random artificial insemination from a test tube is simply too inhuman and lacking the spark of humanity which you seek. And as always... the paper work, the interviews, the screening processes....
"That's where I may be of help to you.
I'm a professional surrogate male..." You can imagine the response. (Or google it!)

Excuse me, but Marla has collaborated on the last few alt.adoption holiday spoofs in addition to constantly feeding adoption related articles for consumption by this group.
