'Natural desire' for adopted baby knowledge Sep 27 2005
icWales
THERE is "a very natural desire" for people to want to know about
children they have given up for adoption and for adopted people to know
about their parents, the Welsh Assembly heard today.
The comments were made by the Liberal Democrat's health spokeswoman
during a debate involving The Access to Information (Post-commencement
Adoptions) (Wales) Regulations 2005 and The Adoption Information and
Intermediary Services (Pre-commencement Adoptions) (Wales) Regulations
2005.
Jenny Randerson said there had been "serious problems" in the past
and the situation had been "very unsatisfactory".
The Liberal Democrat health spokeswoman said the way information has
been provided, as well as advice and counselling in the past has been
very uneven.
There is also an increasing need for genetic information, she told the
chamber during the plenary session.
Welsh health minister Dr Brian Gibbons said the regulations were
underpinned by the principle of consent.
He acknowledged the need for information to be available in "children
friendly terms".

As opposed to "sheep friendly terms", I suppose.
Let us not forget that this is *Wales*, the land of the Kilshaws and
Flintshire Social Services, it can hardly be surprising to anyone that its
Health Minister (the person in charge of the nation's health) has difficulty
understanding the difference between adults and children.
Wales; a region which suffers from some of the worst social deprivation in
Europe, I wonder why, with people like that in charge.
