State Assembly Revises Safe Haven Law

The Safe Haven Law Revision Would Expand The Child Surrendering

Deadline From 72-hours to 30 Days

Aug 24, 2006 - (CBS 13) SACRAMENTO A final vote from the State Assembly
has passed for the Safe Haven Law, and will now be sent to the
Governor.

The law allows mothers to leave their newborns at a hospital or fire
station within 72-hours after the baby is born, however the revision
now expands that deadline from 72-hours to 30 days.

"Many mothers especially in cases of cesarean delivery are still in the
hospital after three days..so really what you want to do is give
mothers an appropriate time to get home and you start assessing gravity
of the situation," says State Assemblyman Albert Torrico.

Since the law went into effect five years ago, 150 newborns have been
safely surrendered.

BTW, one of ghe pimpettes referred to it as a "pro-life" law.

Geez, Marley, have a heart.  Even a  furniture showroom will give you
30 days to see how a sofa fits into your home.  Why not a kid?

Gee, and I'd been thinking in terms of cars and magazine subscriptions
There are no lemon laws in adoption, Jim!

Eh, maybe not so.  Didn't you hear about the recent hubbub w/ the
couple who adopted a Chinese child, didn't "fit" with her (she wasn't
adjusting fast enough after orphanage life apparently) and returned her
for an upgrade after only several days and a finalization?  They even
gave the 2 girls the same name.
