Bella has a bit of a rash thing on her, that the doctor has decided is a
possible allergy/skin irritation..
Anyway, after trying to treat it with a mild cream for a week to no effect..
The Dr advised me to wash all of her clothes/bed clothes etc in Lux Flakes
at half the quantity the pack says... It doesn't froth up or anything is
this normal or am I doing something wrong???

Sounds about right. It's often the bubbling stuff (surfactant) that skin is
irritated by. Could also try Aware washing powder. P has been using this as
she was quite sensitive to ordinary powders, even getting red and rashy
after being hugged by someone who had used ordinary stuff on their clothes.

Don't use soaps or bubble bath on her for a while. Even try limiting baths
and see if that helps.

Yeah I have been told I can only bath her every other day and less if I can
manage it (the Dr seemed to think twice a day was a bit excessive)...and I
am to hold off washing her hair (yuk, I hate dirty hair with a passion) and
if I must I can't let the shampoo touch her skin, have to wash her like a
baby...

Yikes, I would think so, unless she's a fanatical mud wrestler!

Came across a little book at our library by Gary Eggers (the gutbuster guy)
and someone else about skin, including miraculous before and after photos.
Think it's got a name like Good Skin or Skin Deep.  Apparently we do our skin
a lot of harm by putting lots of soap on it -- makes it crack and let nasties
in -- and by sleeping under doonas and wearing too many clothes.

Try slathering her with sorbolene.  You can use it like soap too.

did you dissolve the flakes in water before using?

i also use some of the other brands of gentle fabric stuff, like amolin.
easier than flakes.

and that QV stuff is no friend to my boy's skins!  Hamilton is ok though.

For creams and shampoos I can recommend the Dermaveen range. Very mild and
gets her clean. Look for shampoos without Laurel (Laureth) Sulphate. That's
often what causes the irritation.

this is right

but.. the best thing you can do is to wash as normal, and then wash
again, minus anything.  no soaps etc..

also... vinegar is brilliant....

for baths use something like alpha kerri oil.... or fill a old
stocking foot with oatmeal, tie a knot in it, and throw in the bath..
instant oatmeal soap.. minus the yucky stuff.

Water "hardness" (which varies between supplies) takes soap out of
action, so until you add enough soap to overcome it, it will neither
foam nor clean.  However, once that end point is reached, additional
soap will produce suds increasingly.  It's like you get
nothing...nothing...nothing...nothing...and then hit end point and get
what might be an unexpected increase in suds:

              / s
             /  u
            /   d
           /    s
0__________/
amount of soap

So you may need to add more than the Dr said.  Add it slowly with
agitation until you get to the point where it starts to froth up.
However, if you use more water than that in the future you'll need to
add proportionally more soap.

oh Kell.. i saw on the wall of the health clinic today, that we should
not be using soap on our kids until they start to sweat.. and then it
should be soapless subsitiutes

eczema is known as the affluent disorder...

Melissa was allergic to everything that went on her skin, and i had to
use all natural products, and textiles....
