OK - first impressions - it's going to be super full-on for a while until I
learn the many many processes. They are super organised and very supportive
so that's good but I have felt a little overwhelmed by all the stuff I will
need to learn until this afternoon when I was actually making a few
decisions re children's holiday activities and related stuff that falls
within my comfort zone. I will get a bit of hand holding for a while but a
lot of the other stuff is coming back to me. It helps that I get my first
RDO next Tues and my first evening shift, which will be next Wed, will have
the branch librarian there to help. I am not rostered on (so far) for a
weekend shift over the next three months but that may change if they feel I
can handle it I guess. It's a huge branch with lots of staff (nearly all
female!!!) and I already know a few of them from being a regular user at
Glenroy so that's kinda nice. When I have more stuff under my belt I will
have a number of issues to tackle - mostly about the way the children's and
teen sections look (not good) and the lack of storage available for all the
children's activities material (currently scattered in three disorganised
areas around the workroom).
Pascal is fine with the changes (longer day, Dad picking her up, etc) maybe
a little more grumpy and tired as dinner approaches but DH has been very
supportive and positive even with the zombie wife in the evenings. It *will*
be much harder for him when childcare closes...but that's another
story...She's toilet training at the moment and that's going pretty well. We
bribe her with lollies for when she wees on the toilet but she's yet to use
the toilet for poos. So far she's done it on the grass twice and in her
undies once. She is going pretty much all day in her undies at childcare
with no accidents which is great. I am pretty sure she'll be right by the
time she's to start in the "big" room next Jan.
Had a phone call from a close friend last night. She's won 4 tickets to
Santa's Kingdom at Jeff's Shed, so P and I will head into the city on
Saturday to meet up with her and her family to see Santa. That should be fun
but we may not get too close to Santa :-)
Thanks for the kind thoughts. I'm still not confident that this fulltime gig
is for me long term but I will give it a go and see. I'm looking forward to
being able to have something to spend for once. This will be the first time
pretty much ever that DH and I have both been gainfully employed at the same
time in the ten years we have been together.
