Menstruating again?

My DD was born June 16, 2004 and I believe I had my period return although
very lightly on December 26th, 2004 and it seemed to barely last 48 hours.
Is it too early to be menstruating again?

I bled that terrible lochia stuff for about 2, almost 3 months. I was
worried it would never stop.

I was hoping that BFing would keep my period away longer. I feed DD about
every 3 hrs or so if not more frequently during the daytime.

I assume because my precious little DD sleeps so long at night time that
this may be the main reason for my period's return. My DD can easily make it
through the night for about 10 hours or so! (Yes I am blessed. I sympathize
for those not so fortunate.) She sometimes wakes up in the middle of the
night for a feeding but not usually. When it happens I may be tired still so
I sneak her into my bed with us and she will sleep a few more hours with me
that way also. She can help herself at that point but I think she gets a
good tummy full and slumbers away with me. The stretches between night
feedings though almost always are 5 hours or more apart.

I know that different woman can barely compare their menstrual cycles
because of their individuality; differences can be monumental from one woman
to another. Even before pregnancy. I just wanted to know some other stories
of other woman to find out how long it took for theirs to return. If you
have a story to share then please do. Thanks.

That is the range of normal I think.

Grrr.  I wouldn't know.  Mine are 5 and 3 *years* and have never slept 10
hours at a stretch ;-/

If I remember correctly the "recommendation" from keeping AF from returning
(not really scientific) is no period between feeds longer than 6 hours, only
one
of those a day, and otherwise at least 7 feeds a day.  I cn easily imagine
return
of period with a 10 hour spacing.

Monika got her period back quickly.  After Clara (her first) it was 4 1/2
months.
After Niel, when she was tandem nursing it was 7 1/2  months.

Nope. All women are different. The 'average' return of menses in women
breastfeeding exclusively and on demand is around 9 months but 6 months is not
unusually early at all, especially with your daughter sleeping so long at
night.

You might well be irregular for a while yet. Maybe you'll have another period
in a month, or maybe you won't have another for several.  All normal.

Not at all. With ds my period returned at 3.5 months pp. I am very glad I
wasn't relying on LAM because I was following all the guidelines for it and
still got my period back.

My dd is sleeping 6-9 hours at night at 8 weeks and I expect my period to
return anytime because of that. I might be pleasantly surprised, but I doubt
it.

Nope. Mine came back at 4 months, despite 2-3 hourly feeds day and
night...

I think denial as a coping strategy is often underrated.

mine returned at 5 months pp to the day. DS was not waking much at that time
for night feeds. it never bothered me. i felt a little in limbo not having
AF.

Hi, Angela!  My DS was born 6/24. He also sleeps through the night, and
AF came the week before Christmas for me.  Just another data point.

My DD was exclusively and frequently BF and not yet on solids, but my period
returned a few days before her 6th month. DD from early on was also sleeping
through the night (6-7 hours straight) most of the time. I think her
prolonged sleeping was the main reason for my period return. My periods at
first were 30 days apart and now are 28 days apart.
