. . . 1.5 ounces in four days!
Okay, that's not great; it's just shy of the .5 ounce per day that the
NP said is minimally acceptable, but it's a lot better than nothing in
a month!
The LC said that L. looks good to her, that she is not dehydrated and
doesn't look skinny. She nixed tongue tie, said she has good tongue
movement. She is still not happy with her latch, especially on the
left breast. She is doing this weird thing where she pulls her head
way back so that the nipple almost is coming out of her mouth. Does
that suggest anything to anyone?
We did the weight before and after a feed and she took in nearly 2
ounces, twice what she did the last time, but it should be more like
three or four.
She *gave* me an SNS (not the fancy kind, but still!) and wants me to
give her the milk I am pumping through that. She wants me to pump
after four feeds a day if I can. I don't need to tell you what a PITA
it is to try to attach that damn thing for feedings (Which then take
forever while I am trying to get that pumped milk into her as well) and
then pump after with four other kids to take care of!
I am definitely fuller, feeling lumpy again, having strong let downs,
etc. I am drinking Mothers Milk Tea, taking fenugreek, reglan, and
milk thistle, and will be adding blessed thistle today. Anything else
work really well for others? (I love oatmeal so that's good!)
My theory on what went wrong is that her nursing decreased due to her
bad cold, and that caused a dip in supply, which may also have been
exacerbated by the return of AF four days ago. But I think things are
turning around as she seems much happier the past few days.
Thanks all for your encouragment. I appreciate any and all suggestions
you may have. Oh, I also took her to the chiropractor and am doing it
again next week. She was very tight on one side which may have been
affecting her latch.
Tomorrow is the weight check at the ped . . . prayers, please! I will
update tomorrow about that.

That is gerat news Leslie! I'm sure things will go well from here in.
Maybe there is something to the chiro thing if she is nursing better on one
side than the other and the chiro said she was tight on one side. Maybe
another couple of adjustments might really help things. You have ruled out
all the obvious things. Good luck but I have a feeling you have both turned
the corner on this one.
cheers

I found that vitex also worked well for me. There is a germal study
which showed that it did well for other nursing moms too. I took one
500 mg pill a day. The amount can vary a bit depending on what size
pills you find to buy, but don't take alot more than that because in
larger doses is has the reverse effect.

Kathy,
Isn't vitex the same thing as chaste tree berry?
Leslie

Yes, vitex is also called chaste tree berry. Oh, and that was a german
study, not a germal study I was mentioning in my earlier post :-)

Hee - I loved oatmeal until we had the feeding problems with Jamie.
Don't be surprised if you're sick of the thought of it in another month!
Anyway, in answer to your question - a lot of people on the PumpMoms
list are going on about some stuff called Roma (I think it also goes
under the brand name Pero) which does wonders for supply, apparently.
All the best,
Sarah

Sarah,
Do you have any idea what is in this, in case I cannot find it and just
have to buy the ingredients separately?

Well, someone was saying on the list today that the magic ingredient is
barley. I don't know whether there are any other necessary ingredients
in it.
All the best,
