I'm de-lurking in the hopes of gaining some much needed advice and wisdom.

I am taking my first trip away from my 1.5 year old (actually he'll be
22 months) in Sept. He nurses about 3-4 times a day. I don't want to
wean him. How can I make this happen--I'm afraid he will lose interest
or my that supply will drop drastically.

Thanks for any advice.

How long are you going to be away? That's the biggest issue, I think.

5 days. Sorry, I wasn't thinking.

Well, I think for 5 days, the simplest solution is to take him with you.
Others have reported babies that forgot how to nurse in a week at that
age.

Simple, but may well be impractical, Larry!

If you have to go away, I don't think there's any way you can ensure that
your DS won't lose interest, though it seems to be a minority of nurslings
who do. Supply - I'd be less worried about this than about
engorgement/mastitis, since supply would only drop if you were getting much
less milk out than usual and that would come with its own problems... Can
you pump easily? I did a 36 hour trip without my similar-age DS recently,
and did manage, but I wouldn't have been happy risking a 5 day trip; the
chance of getting ill with mastitis while I was away would just have been
too high.

I can't take the baby. I do plan to pump and nurse right before I leave
and right when I get home. I'm hoping to hear success stories...

I have one, but for a 3-day trip, not a five day. DS was about about
20mos old at the time.  Plan to pump, if only to relieve pressure/aviod
mastitis,  as someone else said, your supply will probably be fine.
Mine was, and I only pumped once to relieve engorgment.

I didn't have too many worries about loss of interest, and DS is
extremely fond of nursing still.

I just got back (yesterday), from a 5 day 4 night trip. DD is 12 months
old (on Sunday!) and nurses maybe a tad more than your son, but she
came back to nursing just fine.

I don't suppose he's taking a bottle? I think that actually helped
DD stay interested, DH fed her bottles on demand, including at night
(when she usually nurses).

I pumped 4 times a day while I was gone in order to keep up my supply.
I pumped right before bed, in the morning, at lunch and tried to get one
more pump in at dinner time.

I also tried to mentally prepare myself for the possibility of her
weaning.

If last night is any indications, she's not weaned :)

I hope the same happens for you!

Oh great. That sounds so reassuring. I will be gone for 5 days and 4
nights also. Actually, I can nurse before I leave and when I get back so
there will be no nursing at all for only 3 days. He doesn't take a
bottle--never has but I think we can do this.
Thanks for sharing your story.
