permanently bigger?

I gained alot more than I should have with my last pregnancy.  I went from
125 to about 170.  But through diet and regular exercise, I am back to 127,
and a bodyfat % below 25%.  But I still can't fit my pre-pregnancy clothes.
My hips and waist are bigger than they were before.  I guess it's my waist
that has seen the biggest increase.  I didn't have much of a waist before,
but now my waist to hip ratio is way off, and it's getting increasingly
difficult to find pants that fit.  I have a 30" waist, and 36" hips.

What I am wondering...  is there a permanent increase in size that isn't
related to bodyfat?  Like a permanent stretching of ligaments or something?
It's frustrating...

There seems to be for me.  I find that my pre-pregnancy clothes fit at
5-10 pounds below my pre-pregnancy weight.  My pre-pregnancy weight was
also 125.  The clothes fit when I am 116-120.  Unfortunately, this is
not the range my body likes to be long term.  I usually get down to
this during the first year of nursing, but then gain back to my
pre-pregnancy weight a bit after a year when I start ovulating again.

I'm at my pre-pregnancy weight now. I however am not in the same % body
fat. I look chubbier. The jeans don't fit me as well as before. I
haven't given up yet. I think i lost lot of muscle mass because of
inactivity and whatnot. I'm into long distance running now and it ought
to make a difference. If I add some weight training work, I think it
can be done. You seem to working out pretty regularly. I assume you
strength-train. Good luck.

Yeah, I do strength training twice a week and cardio twice a week, fairly
intensely.  My bodyfat is as low as it's ever been...  I'm going to try for
20-22%

Are you planning another baby? I don't know what the recommended body fat is
for getting pregnant, but you may want to settle for a little higher with
good strength and cardio fitness, then if you've got more fat reserves, you
may not put on so much in pregnancy. I think I was around 25% when falling
pregnant both times, starting higher than you about 132, not sure of the
max, but definitely not above 160 and probably not above 155, I wonder if
you put on more because you needed the fat????

Cheers

This happens with aging, whether you get pregnant or not!

Larry, who has never been pregnant, but....

well my ribs have definite expanded and not gone back, I was a 32 bra band
size pre first pregnancy, and have stayed at a 34 since, despite at times
dropping below that prepregnancy weight. I've not noticed any changes lower
down, I do fit in prepregnancy trousers, though I am not currently at
prepregnancy weight, it's tops I've had a problem with! I guess each person
is different

I think you are right - I know my feet are wider than they were pre
preg ... but I'm having a bit of trouble with weight at the moment, so
I don't fit into pre preg clothes yet anyway! I'll let you know how I
go when I do!!

I now have one foot wider than the other!!  Since having DD (9 months) I've
had issues buying shoes to fit and be comfortable.  I'm pretty much back to
where I was before elsewhere though, prepregancy clothes look the same.

I experienced the same thing.  My prepregnancy weight was more like 135
and I put on 50 pounds, although I was eating healthy stuff and trying
to be good. Prior to my pregnancy my waist was about 27 (I worked out A
LOT) but my hips were probably around 37-40.  Now my waist is not so
much smaller than my hips and no matter how much weight I lose, it
stays the same. I am at 140 now and struggling to lose any more but
regardless, my proportions seem to have permanently changed. When you
think about the fact that your hips had to spread as a normal
progression, I don't think it is too strange to consider that your body
might not be at the exact same measurements as they were prior to the
baby. Also, you have to consider age. I was 33 when I delivered so I
think I've accomplished a lot just getting my weight back down
considerably.  It sounds like you are doing well also!
