This article was interesting for a couple of reasons. It says a child
cannot have thalassemia unless both parents have it. And that it is
prevalent in India, middle east, mediterranean, etc etc. I am mostly
north american native with a bit of swedish blood. How did I get it?

And lately I have been developing gall bladder issues, even though I
don't totally fit the profile. (Fertile-yes, female-yes, fat-not even
close, forty-not even close.) Now I see according to this article that
thalassemia causes the production of bilirubin stones and that choly-
thing which I can hardly say let alone spell.

Well, half a mystery solved.
