Too true, too true. It's easy to hold onto ideals when you don't have a
shot at power in the first place. And being Libertarian does not make
you any less human.
I think the ultimate path to getting some of the more restrictive and
repressive parts of child support law in this country is to work within
the established parties. Don't get me wrong; I'm a libertarian still in
my heart and I still believe that typically the government solution is
the wrong one. But there comes a point where you have to stop blindly
ramming your head into the wall and approach the problem with a little
more finesse.
For instance, when you go to talk to conservatives, you might want to
frame the argument in terms of fiscal conservatism, using the Laffer
curve for example (as I suggested in another article). Conversely, you
frame the child support argument towards liberals as being one of the
worst forms of regressive taxation towards minorities, many of whom are
chained into low paying jobs and yet have high child support bills.
I believe we have what it takes to win this one. Twenty or thirty years
ago, you would have been laughed out of the senate had you even
SUGGESTED anything like private schools. Today vouchers are one of the
hottest ideas going. I think we can turn this debate.

How about suggesting the real cost to tax payers is far higher to pay CSE
than to subsidize food and other direct child needs? ONE CSE worker is
$40,000, that would pay for alot of shoes, jackets and food discounts. Lets
add in court time, law enforcmemnt involvement. There is nothing to be
gained from persecuting low income people like myself !
Trying to legislate poverty out of existance is never going to happen!
