A new website has been established by some of the ASD
regulars, with a forum that we are using to avoid the spam
and cross-posts which has overrun this newsgroup of late.
...  The location is... http://asdweb.ning.com/
We welcome newcomers, old-timers and anyone with a
sincere interest in this subject to join us there.  = Rog' =

Say, Rog'....

Is it just my imagination, or does it seem that the ambient level of
spam/crossposting is declining in this place?  Also, it sorta seems to
me that the ambient level of *all* traffic here is declining.  <grin>
As the spammers kill off the legitimate traffic, I'd bet there's less
of an incentive for the spammers to be here at all.  After all, what's
the point in spamming no one but other spanmmers?

Mebbe when the spammers have got this place killed off completely,
then the legitimate inhabitants can return... for a while, anyway.

Yeah, I think you're right.
The spammers, trolls and cross-posters may have decided
that there's not enuff to see here and have moved on.  But
NG traffic seems to be declining everywhere. Maybe folks
have gotten hooked on You Tube, Face Book, and such.

It could also be because ISPs are eliminating Usenet coverage, as
happened to me recently.  I had to pay service through a Germany
company others recommended.  Or access through Google groups
(((shudder)))

So *are* ISPs eliminating usenet coverage?  As a trend?  If so, I
wonder why...

Well, a number of ISP's had some complaints filed against them for allowing
porn to be downloaded through Usenet.  They agreed to no longer carry "any'
of the alt. groups.  Surprisingly, the percentage of people on the internet
who use Usenet is pretty small.  A friend of mine who owns an ISP says
that  less than 5% of his users frequent usenet.  To some ISPs it is more
of a bother or liability than an asset or necessary for them to provide
access to it.

Glad for a chance to reply so I could correct my earlier typos :-)

My ISP is Time Warner cable, which is a pretty big provider (at least,
in my part of the US).  Don't know that this makes it a trend, but
anecdotally, it seems that others are at least getting poor or reduced
Usenet service.

I do think Google Groups has put a "skin" on Usenet that has made its
original form almost disappear, except for those of us who go back to
earlier times.
