Or anyone that has been through this. TIA.

Hi Ericka,

We are going through the process of having Kara (DD3) tested formally
through the school for any hidden learning disabilities. I have went through
this with my oldest daughter, so I kind of remember what was involved, but
it has been a while. However, the school is giving me a hard time (not
surprised since it does cost money), but there was a site that I gone to
before that listed the parental rights and all of the testing that they do
and I am having a devil of a time finding that information. This would be
for Michigan. Do you have any resources or ideas for me. Thanks so much.

Hi Jeanne,

Thanks for that site. It looks like it would be helpful, but it's not what I
was looking for, or at least I have not run across it on the site yet. There
was something I read before that stated that the school had 30 days to
perform the tests and that it was my right to have the child tested as long
as it was in a written letter. I am not finding that specific information.
There was also a site that had the terms on it and described what they
meant, like IEP (I know what that is, but this site I am thinking of had
things like that). I will keep this though and look through it more
throughly.

I'm working on it--I've been really busy the last
couple of days, and the quick search I did didn't turn it
up, but I'll keep looking!

Take care,
Ericka

Thank you so much Ericka.

You might find this helpful although I doubt it was the site you were
looking for.  If you scroll down to evaluations you'll find there is a 30
day time line.  The IDEA defaults to a 60 day time frame now but some states
have kept the 30 day time frame.  That is days from consent to evaluation I
believe.

That came from the Michigan state webpage which has other links as well
http://www.michigan.gov/mde  Special education is under 'programs and
offices'.  All those documents are typical state generated info which is
awful to read but the info is probably in there.  Hope you find the link you
were looking for as it is probably much more user friendly :-)

I also really like Nichcy as an organization/website.  Loads of information.
You can start here and work backwards to the home page
http://www.nichcy.org/pubs/ideapubs/lg1txt.htm for other good info.

http://www.nichcy.org/stateshe/mi.htm#state - scroll far enough down and
you'll get links 'especially for parents'.  Those groups (or similar ones)
are generally wonderful resources in my state so might be worth a phone
call.

Good luck.

Thanks Nikki. That is some long reading, but you're right, it is probably in
there somewhere.

I don't know anything about it, but there are a few people over on
misc.kids.moderated who seem to be very knowlegeable on the subject.
You might post there, too.

Thanks Clisby. Do I need to do anything to subscribe to that group, or can I
just start posting? I did, incidentally post to that newsgroup earlier, but
my post hasn't shown up yet.

I'm not sure - I never post there except by mistake, when I answer
something that's crossposted; but I have had posts show up on mkm.
I think the delay might be for the moderators to check the post, or
something?

I think that is right.  You just send the post and it eventually gets there
:-)  You can sign up if you want, or at least they'd send me emails to sign
up.  I think that speeds the process up a bit but don't remember for sure
now.

Anyone can post.  You just send like you normally do, and the moderator
checks it before it gets posted.  If you post there a few times and they
figure out you aren't a loon or a troll, they will invite you to be an
express
poster.  If you do that, then your posts will no longer be checked before
being posted.

That's right.  Misc.kids.moderated is like any other newsgroup, except that
posts are moderated.  There is no server address to set up or anything like
that.

For posting guidelines and other information:

Thanks for the information.
