When I lived in New York, I often saw older siblings riding on the backs
of strollers -- they stood on little boards, like mini skateboards, that
attached to the backs.

Does anyone know what those boards are called, and where to get one? I
have a Maclaren Triumph stroller, a few years old.

I seem to recall that there was one called a "Buggy Board."
You might have some luck searching on that.

Hey, you're right, thanks. And they cost $80, so so much for that.

plus there's a safety recall.

2 or 4 skate wheels & a nice piece of 1/2" birch plywood, a
few screws... shouldn't cost more than $15 & a half hour's
time.

...from 2002, which one presumes has been remedied,
as the company send out fixes for existing product.  It's
hard to imagine they would have continued manufacturing
the defective product.

I was gonna say, you ought to try it out first.  I tried it out at BRU
because I thought it was a neat idea, but it was difficult to push without
also getting something to extend the handlebars.

Ah, thanks for the tip. I do have some handle extenders around here
somewhere, left over from our previous stroller. (We're tall in this
family. We have such things.)

When I was a kid, I rode on something like that:
it was part of the stroller.  Might or might not
have been intended for the purpose.  Just a
horizontal bar on the stroller.  Kids' tricyles
have something like that.

Buggy board. Love them. Takes a little getting used to but much easier tyan
a double. Prices here start at about £30 (don't know conversion). I got the
seat'ngo, where they can sit on-it looks like 2 steps. It cost about £40. It
fits fine on my Maclaren Techno stroller (and fitted on my sadly deceased
Triumph). Takes more getting used to than the plain buggy boards, but much
better when your child's tired and whingy.
