Gday...My 13 yr old just fainted for the first time..
Should I take her to the doctor? What could cause it?
She isnt sick, she was just in the kitchen, she said she felt all tingly and
dizzy then everything went black and the next thing you know she is on the
floor.
Should I be worried about this?
Any advice would be appreciated.....she said she is fine now. But ive made
her lay down.
Thanks

Did she stand up very quickly to go to the kitchen?
Has she been dieting recently?

I would recommend going to the doctor. I have fainted a few times and there
is nothing wrong with me that anyone knows of, so it could be nothing, but
I certainly would take her in.

Normally healthy people might faint if they find themselves in very
warm environments where they are standing for a long time.
I would say it was unusual to faint at home because you'd usually be
able to sit down when you start to feel bad.
If she is shooting up height wise this might make her feel a little
unbalanced, or if she had not eaten for a while, or if she is having
heavy periods she might be feeling a bit weak.
I imagine if there has only been one faint a doctor will just take her
blood pressure and maybe check her iron levels. Both of these are
useful to know. Some people have naturally low blood pressure and need
to make sure they don't stand up too quickly (I'm one of those).

My daughter said she always feels funny when she stands up, but has never
passed out before.
So I will definately take her to the doc today and get her blood pressure
checked.
Thanks guys

I've only fainted a couple of times in my life (I'm 69). I fainted
one morning when I was about 9 - I was sitting on the edge of the big
clawfoot bathtub waiting for my turn on the toilet. My dad caught me.
I fainted when I was posing for my wedding pictures c 1959 - I had
just been to the hairdresser for a long session, and was standing
wearing my grandmother's dress 1905 which had a high collar. The
photographer caught me. And I fainted in the (hot) dry cleaners when
I was about 6 months pg with my third child c 1968. No one caught me
that time, and I about scared the dry cleaner to death. AFAIK,
nothing was wrong with me any of those times.
I've felt faint since then, but now I know to sit down and get my head
down.

When we had our first and only fainting episode, we started by seeing if
we had a possible cause (we did), and then wrote down as much as we
could think of about the episode.
We didn't go to the doctor (over half the websites we looked at said we
should) because we thought they would probably spend a long time telling
us what we had already found on the web. If it happens again we have
the details. Essentially, we didn't want to make a huge fuss over what
was probably a one off event. If it happens again, we would.
