Hey YB,
I am curious which source you are using for winmail newgroups since
comcast discontinued newsgroups.
Also google is having major probs, so I need to find yet another
source.

Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Is that now a fact (for Comcast Internet)?   (just asking if you know that
for sure, Vickie)

Yes it is a fact.
I spoke with a comcast rep yesterday.
But then here I am posting through it.
I suppose eventually I will not be able to, but the date set for
discontinuing was Oct. 25th.

Hi Vicki!

I gave up on ISP based news servers years ago (as in 7 or 8 years!).
Most of them are / were crap, never carrying all the groups, not
carrying the groups I was interested in, and / or frequently dropping
posts!

The answer is here:

http://news.individual.net/

They DO NOT carry "binaries" or "Porno" - which is ideal for access at
work. And it is only 10 Euros per year.

The service has proven to be rock solid bullet-proof reliable.
Absolutely worth every penny.

Thanks much.  I will look into it.

Yep, it was during the day on October 27th that it up and disappeared on me.
:-(

I followed NewMan's advice though, so I'm back.  :-)

You could just do other things in that time. That's what I did.
Tho I do like to catch up on reading on the weekends...
so I was bummed.

I do.  I'm on dial-up, so it's a moot point for me.   See, time is quite
timeless over here.   One thing I have plenty of, and maybe too much of,
is.... time.  (you want some?  LOL)

After my experience with my last couple of ISPs I wound up going with an outside
service. A friend had recommended Newsguy.com and I've been happy with them
since.

If you mostly visit the text groups you can probably get by with google or one
of the freebie site if there's still a few floating around, but then you're
stuck with google or the free stuff isn't always going to be there.

With the recent changes at Comcast I noticed Newsguy was promoting a special on
their site that gives new Comcast sign-up a free month. They had a trial account
too if anyone was still looking for a newsgroups replacement.

I bought a cellular telephone thru Alltel.
It can give you an internet connection.
They call it "tethering."
It works good!
