Sometimes I look at the Google Groups (for newgroups), and lately it seems
they're not getting any recent posts, but only those older than a week or
two.    Anybody else noticed this?

They're fluctuating back and forth, Bill, but no so badly as a week or
two on the posts.  Sometimes a day or two, though.

I had thought I had tried some searches in some of them (for posts within a
week), and came up with nada, but when I selected within a month, got hits
(but they were older posts, as mentioned).

Yep.  Most current you can bring up is 4 days ago.

Ah, y'all are talking about the archives?  Dunno.  Haven't looked
anything up in the archives recently.  I do know that posts are making
to the groups more efficiently than they were earlier in the week.

No, when you go to Google Groups and do any searches, you specify the time
range (via a selector button) as being either:  anytime, or within the past
24 hours, past week, past month, past three months, past 6 months, past
year.  When I did this, nothing came up for any searches - unless I selected
the past month (and the newest posts seen there were dated over a week ago)

Bill, I know the process, just haven't had time nor inclination to use
it lately.  But they've had issues with posting, so there may be a
broader programming issue going on.
