According to an article I saw recently, Johns Hopkins have found a
substitute for God - sacred mushrooms! They give you a "genuine mystical
experience" - what we used to call a "trip" - and improved mood for up to
12 months - could be just euphoria. There are "temporary" unpleasant side
effects - he hasn't heard of increased tolerance of drugs. Here is the

Of course, the report has been filtered through the reporter's world view,
and I am seeing it through mine. But anybody really interested in religion
wants more than a mystical experience. Spiritual issues are those dealing
with feelings of emptiness and meaninglessness.
