You're a talented woman, I am very impressed. And, at the risk of sounding quite pitiful as I think about my own musical abilities, you are so lucky to have a gift that can give others pleasure as well as whatever quiet joy it gives you, personally. Did I read something at an earlier time that you used to be in a band? Is that a possibility for you now?

Lead guitar - Shan Bass and backing vocals - Ronda Drums - Anthony Me - lead vocals, rhythm guitar, lyrics and music
Now? Hmm. I don't think so. I was young and free then, lol.

mom0f4boys - 15 Jul 2008 05:58 GMT Pretty, pretty voice. The song itself reminds me of a band called Bic Runga (best song--- "That's alright').
Your lucky children, to be sung to by you over the years!
Vickie - 15 Jul 2008 17:38 GMT > Pretty, pretty voice. The song itself reminds me of a band called Bic > Runga (best song--- "That's alright'). Sweet, I will look it up.
> Your lucky children, to be sung to by you over the years! Many, many moments of pushing them in baby swings out back, singing. But most of us do that.

I stopped when the band broke up. I had met my (now) husband then, so I took a looooong break. I was busy being head over heels, can't get enough, in love. About 2 years later, Shan, the multi-talented, lead guitar player, was diagnosed with multiple myloma, stage 4, and died a year later (age 26), and it was hard to even look at my guitar. Kids came along. *Life* came along. I always felt I had something more important to do, really. And for some wacky reason, I thought (and still think a lot) that picking up my guitar and writing from start to finish, would taint those incredible memories, (writing, playing live, recording, creating, and all the other things, cool, crazy, awful, beautiful things that happened then).
My little one (5yo) decided to raid mom's panty drawer and came across my band's cd. (Got to find a new home for my "toys" ;) We played it and she danced about, quite dramatically and in the buff, as she likes to do, lol, and I thought maybe Xorra would get a kick out of it.
I suppose I could start making some new memories. Kind of intimidating though. :-/
Aren't you glad you asked! lol

I am. I grew up with a neighborhood full of budding musicians. Everyone I hung out with played. I played (tried) drums for a short while, then gravitated over to the support side and spent quite a few years working for bands in one capacity or another. Those few I knew who could write decent songs were the ones I envied.

Sweet. An old friend of mine is a roadie for Avril Lavigne. She is that pseudo angry punk chick. Is that the kind of thing you did?
Drums were also my first instrument. My senior year in HS, second semester, I stopped twirling my gun, and played snare. I loved it. Got a hand-me-down set and played and played. Started out the drummer of our band. Never got to "YYZ" status, but I scraped by. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuOTkrEVeb4&feature=related LOVE IT!
Learning drums first had interesting input on my song writing and playing rhythm guitar.

I know it is no Morissette or Streisand or -fill in the blank-, but it is me, it is mine, tangible.
Why it is so important that there is something of mine that is palpable for years to come, I don't know, but it is.
So, if I pleased someone's ears for a bit, that's more than enough for me.

I was watching this VH1 special last night, on the top 100 songs of the 80's. One of them was "I Melt With You" by Modern English. The singer/songwriter felt kind of queasy about selling it to Burger King, but he was pretty happy about the 90 grand he got for it.
