Mermaid - 27 Mar 2007 04:17 GMT One day, when a seamstress was sewing while sitting close to a river, her thimble fell into the river. When she cried out, the Lord appeared and asked, "My dear child, why are you crying?"
The seamstress replied that her thimble had fallen into the water and that she needed it to help her husband in making a living for their family.
The Lord dipped His hand into the water and pulled up a golden thimble set with pearls.
"Is this your thimble?" the Lord asked.
The seamstress replied, "No."
The Lord again dipped into the river. He held out a silver thimble ringed with sapphires.
Is this your thimble?" the Lord asked.
Again, the seamstress replied, "No."
The Lord reached down again and came up with a leather thimble. "Is this your thimble?" the Lord asked.
The seamstress replied, "Yes."
The Lord was pleased with the woman's honesty and gave her all three thimbles to keep, and the seamstress went home happy.
Some years later, the seamstress was walking with her husband along the riverbank, and her husband fell into the river and disappeared under the water.
When she cried out, the Lord again appeared and asked her, "Why are you crying?"
Oh Lord, my husband has fallen into the river!"
The Lord went down into the water and came up with George Clooney.
Is this your husband?" the Lord asked.
Yes," cried the seamstress.
The Lord was furious. "You lied! That is an untruth!"
The seamstress replied, "Oh, forgive me, my Lord It is a misunderstanding. You see, if I had said 'no' to George Clooney, you would have come up with Brad Pitt. Then if I said 'no' to him, you would have come up with my husband. Had I then said 'yes,' you would have given me all three. Lord, I'm not in the best of health and would not be able to take care of all
three husbands, so THAT'S why I said 'yes' to George Clooney.
And so the Lord let her keep him.
The moral of this story is: Whenever a woman lies, it's for a good and honorable reason, and in the best interest of others.
That's our story, and we're sticking to it.
Signed,
All Us Women

> Sorry, I actually misread the sentence in a hurry, thought it said, > "some of us chose Not to be moms, you know", and I thought it was a > child-free person writing. Thanks for the compliment, sheesh. It's not as if this is the first time we have ever bumped into eachother in NGs Carolyne. I have never been anything other than civil to you, been sending you silent vibes for YEARS, and for the life of me I can't understand why you would make these hateful comments to me. How would *you* feel if you had been posting somewhere for YEARS and some newbie barges into the group stating that only people with more than just an only child should be posting there? Did that bite? Multiply it by two and then you have about the effect you created in me. BTW, the post you claim to have misread was the *third* hint on my part towards you. Clearly you read what you wanted to read in the other two posts as well.
> Sorry if I offended you, didn't mean to. There's no *if* about it and given the background plus everything I am going through ATM, sorry, I'm just not in a forgiving mood. And this Carolyne, is as civil a reply you're going to get from me at this time, having just been spat in the face and still trying to get that knife out of my back. It would perhaps have been a different story had you and I never bumped into other NGs before. I know your story, I have *no* reason to assume that you don't know mine. Infertiles can post/lurk/whatever wherever they want. USENET has no limits, really. I never said anything about anyone not being able to post here, regardless of fertility status. Like I've said about eighty times, I thought this was a group about mothers, my mistake for reading the title as 'alt.mothers'.

I thought you were one of those rude childfree people who attacks people with children from your remarks (which I admit I misread). I apologized. What do you want, blood?
I'm still trying to find the FAQ to determine what the guidelines are here. Not a mindreader, you know.

"Demanded"?! Who do you think I am, the President or something? I have ~respectfully~ asked people who were criticizing religion if they might take the conversation somewhere else. Don't know what else you are referring to and don't have time to google to figure it out. But I don't stamp my foot in my posts and *demand* anything...<puzzled>
I can't force or demand anyone to do anything on USENET. They can keep writing whatever they want after a polite request, I'm not a netkop. If such a thing happens, I just filter them out of the group, makes things more pleasant.
>> {{{Hugs}}} >> [quoted text clipped - 6 lines] > imagine. AM is an open-minded group, we think outside the box, you should > try it, it's very refreshing. Ah, the old left hand slap in the face! Refreshing! <rolls eyeballs right back>
Anyone can post here if they want, even the lovely LaTreen. I'm not the moderator in charge, so what kind of power do you think I have? All I know is the name of the group. When I go to a scrapbooking group, I expect that the general conversations will be about scrapbooking. When I go to a Star Wars group, I expect the general conversations to me Star Wars related. When I came to this group, alt.mothers, I expected it to be mothers discussing a variety of issues, mostly things that occur on a daily basis, not necessarily all to do with child rearing...yet you say it's an anything goes, anyone can post group that really doesn't have anything to do with mothers--<???>-ooooookay. That's cool with me.
> And this Carolyne, is as civil a reply you're going to get from me at this > time, having just been spat in the face and still trying to get that knife > out of my back. And given that fact your responses were > unforgivable. Then by all means, killfile me. I'm doing the same for you, so I won't offend your 'secret identity' any further--I really don't have time for all the 'hush-hush, I'm sending out secret clues to let you know who I am" business. I am just going by the name of the group. alt.mothers. To me, that means it's a support group for 'mothers', or it would be called 'alt.whoeverwantstopost'. Not saying ANYONE under the sun can't post if they want to, that's fine. If it's an ANYTHING GOES group, that's fine too--I've asked for the FAQ several times to clarify what the purpose of this group is. Please don't assume that newbies who come along just automatically know EVERYTHING about a newsgroup, even when they've lurked for awhile, like I did.
I suspect you are someone I've had to killfile before on the infertility groups for various reasons--if you think I came over here specifically to hurt your feelings, and that makes you feel better, by all means, go on feeling that way. I don't know you from Adam in this secret identity stuff.
I made a simple mistake, ran into the study to check my groups on a break, misread a sentence and responded to it, you pointed out my HORRIBLE HORRIBLE error, I apologized for my UNFORGIVABLE offense (?!), and still you say I deliberately 'spat in your face'?!?
You obviously have some issues to deal with concerning your losses, and I'm truly sorry for that. But "Mo", again, I don't have a clue who you are, don't plan on googling you since you don't want to tell, don't know your story in this persona, and sorry you are having a bad time and feel like all of it is MY fault. If it helps you feel better, I'm sure you'll keep feeling that way. Probably best if we stay out of each other's way then and just killfile each other.
Take care, Carolyne in TX

My post was about sending my brother a present and asking for some ideas but I thought the supportive atmosphere here I could share my frustration with her? Don't expect it from you lee but I wonder sometimes why you seem to defend certain behavior? I have reached a level of exasperation with her since she came on the scene yes... resentful... wouldn't waste my time... she isn't worth it.
