Well, set up the tent at the craft show site in Manchester VT this
afternoon.  The next three days are full of hopes, so your good vibes and
prayers are appreciated, including those related to weather as there is a
front working its way through tonight and into tomorrow, apparently with
rain to stop by noon.  One hopes the rain will stop by 8 [when we will get
there to start actually set up our wares] and that there are no problems
from the storms tonight!

Lee, if you are in the area, it's near Hildene [Todd Lincoln's home] on
Sunderland Hill Rd., Manchester, Vt.  Drop on by if you have the time!  I'm
just inside the gate.

i'll see what i can do, but it's Deerfield Fair weekend *and*
Liam's back from Hawai'i for the week, so i don't know if i
can get Boo away from him ;)

I hear you, especially on the Liam front!  If I had found out about the
Deerfield fair sooner I would be there instead of Manchester.  From what I'm
told it might be a better venue for me.  Ah well, one learns as one goes.

Enjoy Liam.  Drop in if you can!

i'm not sure about that... it has some good vendors, but it
tends to a lot of typical cheap crap of the flashy, brightly
colored, fall-apart-before-you-get-home type stuff that
attracts children & causes lots of screaming fits if mom & dad
refuse to buy it <g>. ever since Boo was twoish, we've
carefully looked at whatever cheap bit of crap that has caught
his eye & pointed out *why* it's not really a good toy. while
i have bought a couple stupid things for him, they've all
predictably fallen apart, as i warned him, so we don't have
much of a problem with that. he's really attracted to the guy
that sells minerals & fossils (who talks to a 7 year old
without talking down!) & the woman who sells wooden toys (he
bought a popgun). we'll be going back Sunday & i think he
might get an ammonite or a trilobite from the fossil guy.
another fun thing is he's not only tall enough to go on the
"scary" rides, he's big enough to go on most of them by
himself. i love rides, but i'm limited by my fluid in the ears
thing to rides that don't spin (so it's pretty limited :p ).
unfortunately, i had to tell him Liam won't be able to go on
some of Boo's favorites, because he's not tall enough yet
(he's 5).

oh, i do. he's a very sweet little boy. :)

I did not realize that.  Maybe I'm better placed where I am, at least this
year.  Next year, who knows, although if today is anything on which to base
next year, I'll be back.

We instituted the same course with DS and he tends to by-pass the cheap
stuff now, too.

;-)  DS hasn't been to a fair with rides since we left Florida.  He pestered
about going to Rutland State Fair in August, but the timing was very poor so
we didn't go.  That would have been a Ride Opportunity, iykwim.  Since he's
nearly my height now [ack!] he could ride nearly anything, which would be
somewhat of a relief to me because I don't like rides that drop out from
under you like roller coasters and husband doesn't do rides.

Good luck w/ the show!
people keep telling me that I should start doing shows .. but I'm afraid.  I
don't know how you do it!

I'm learning show by show but I can tell you that there are several [loads
actually] books out there written about how to do craft shows successfully.
I've got one that has been helpful in focusing my attention on booth design
and interacting more successfully with customers in order to lure them into
my 'shop'.  The initial outlay is a bit much, but there is one sort of tent
that many use that costs around $300, iirc [E-Z Up].  If you want to talk
about details let me know or write.  There is serious money to be made at
craft shows [says the woman who watched loads of people leave the show today
laden with multiple packages].
