Katherines asthma is starting to flare. First time since last October.
Its always a bit concerning. Shes not needed any meds for a full year
and tbh I can hardly remember what I'm supposed to watch out for. I've
checked her inhalers are in date and started giving them. Made an appt
with the asthma nurse to review how exactly I am supposed to treat it
nowadays but thats not for another couple of weeks. Its hard with dh
being away and noone to share the worry with.

Yes, I know the worry. Listen to her chest. Ventolin can be given as
often as every 20 minutes. If it doesn't help soon, you should go to the
doctor's for a script for prednisone. Preventer at night. Steam is good
as well.

DD11 hasn't taken any asthma meds for the last three months. Dh and I
decided she needed to take responsibility, and she decided she didn't
need the meds. Fingers crossed, spring went well, which is normally not
a good time for her.
good luck

thanks - I'll get the steamer out of the loft. And you're right she
needs to go back on to her preventer. We used to do this for every cold
but I've got complacent :(
Her reliever is bricanyl - it says max 8 puffs in 24 hours which seems
quite low to me, I'm sure we used to give her more. Shes had 4 and She
seems ok at the moment, so fingers crossed.

Do you have forced hot air heat? If so, she could be reacting to dust
or mold in the airducts which gets distributed when you start the heat
flowing again. Adding blankets to the bed could also be a factor in
extra "things" floating around for her to inhale.

We have water heated radiators. Good thoughts though :)
tbh I'm sure its her cold thats flared it up, she tends to have viral
induced asthma. She had a tiny cough on saturday and she went on her
brownie camp staying in a cold scout hut for 2 nights. Came home with a
fever, rash and heavy cold. Fever and rash went by next day. I really
should have started her on her preventer straight away but I just didn't
think of it :(

Thanks! If she sleeps tonight I'll be very happy! Shes not too bad at
the moment, I think the last dollop of inhalers really helped.

what type of heat do you have? any type of blown warm air
heat can cause asthma issues. if that's what you have, you may
want to check your furnace filters. cleaning the ducting
(usually hired out to professionals) may be needed.
i hate hot air heating.

Thanks Guys. I'm astonished to say she slept *all* night without
coughing. I really am amazed as she coughed non-stop for an hour when I
put her to bed and I was getting concerned at how tight she was sounding.
Shes very congested this am but no sign of asthma at all. hooray!!
