I'm in the market for a new car. can anyone recommend any websites for
research on price, features etc. I'm going to stick to the imported
cars for now (toyota, honda etc). also, any general suggestions on
cars and features are also appreciated. it's been almost 10 years
since we bought a car. Thanks.

I'm actually looking for a new one, not pre-owned.
Good point to note for a used car though. Thanks.

I believe it's "carfax". Not trying to nitpick, but only want to give the
right information if she wants to use it.

It would help to know what your needs are. A couple of car seats? Booster
seats? Do you haul sports stuff around .. ski equipment, bikes, etc.
How many does it need to seat? Will you use bio fuel? Is bio fuel
accessible in your area? Will you be pulling a camper, trailer, etc.
Do you need stowable seats for non human cargo? Do you need a place for
pets? Will you be parking on the street, in a garage? Inner city or
country or the burb's? How many years will you use this car, will you
pass it along to your kids or DH/W when you buy your next one?
Before you look for a car, decide what your needs are ... you will get a
much better 'fit' that way.
I bought a new car almost 2 yrs ago .. and I still love it. However I can
tell as my kids are getting older and I'm hauling around many kids and not
just my own ... it's not going to be long until I get another car and DH
gets this one to drive back and forth to work. That was the plan, so far
it's working well for us.

I saw the brand new Honda Accord and it's a really nice looking car. So is
the Nissan Maxima. My friend is also very happy with her Nissan Altima
hybrid.
As for sites? I find Consumer Reports to be pretty sound information. You
can borrow issues at the library. That can also get you a general price
however once you figure out what you want, the best way to bargain is either
in person or work several dealers at once over the phone. My husband buys a
new car every three years or so and once he knows what he wants he just
starts calling dealers all over and works them against each other until he
gets what he wants.
Never buy a car at the beginning of the month. Do all your research at the
beginning of the month and start going into/calling dealers mid-month. If
you wait toward the end of the month, the salespeople know what they have to
do to hit their numbers for their quotas. Also, don't ever buy the car on
your first visit to the dealer. Don't ever be afraid to walk out. HTH

When I was shopping for a new car I found a website that delivers auto
quotes to your email address from all the local dealerships. It saved
me some time. Here is the shortened URL: http://tinyurl.com/2tk4zg
