Hi Moms out there!

I'm curious how Moms feel about breakfast for themselves when they
can have so many other priorities in the morning. Here are a few
specific questions - if any of them spark your interest comment below.
I'd love to get a better understanding. Thanks!

- What is your ideal weekday breakfast?
- Why, if ever, do you skip breakfast? How could a new breakfast
product help you skip less often?  What would it need to be like?
- How often do you personally drink milk? When do you drink it?
- How important is breakfast to you? Very important, somewhat
important, not too important, not at all important? Why do you say
that?

I suspect this going to end up in spamming but for the sake of
conversation i'll answer.
I eat breakfast every day otherwise I turn into a grumpy old mare. Have
the same things most days - home-made museli and home-made yogurt with
fruit. two cups of tea and a glass of juice. Breakfast products do not
figure into my life, I can have tastier food for cheaper.

For me it's oatmeal with nuts and raisins mixed in, and little bit of cheese or
sausage.  And COFFEE.

Coffee--and Kashi cereal with organic milk

I like tastier but must be careful of additives--I get these huge
mouth ulcers from some additives, both to meat and dairy -- does
anyone else?

hey, let me get some free market research.

> - What is your ideal weekday breakfast?

leftovers

> - Why, if ever, do you skip breakfast?

if i forget i haven't eaten. i never eat breakfast before 9am,
usually 10am because breakfast any earlier, particularly
traditional breakfast foods, remind me of having to go to
school & i throw them up. yeah, i have deep psychological
scars from public school... ;)

> How could a new breakfast product help you skip less often?
> What would it need to be like?

i'm imagining something like TV dinners of leftovers. ew.

> - How often do you personally drink milk?

by itsself? hmm. not very often. it goes into lots of things,
like making yogurt, smoothies, coffee, cream soups...

>  How important is breakfast to you?

more than supper really. when i remember to eat.

> Very important, somewhat important, not too important, not
> at all important? Why do you say that?

ok, important. oh, that wasn't a choice. somewhat important.
and eating around 10 am means i can skip lunch because i just
ate.

Cold pizza, Cold Lasagna, cold spaghetti
> - Why, if ever, do you skip breakfast?
Because I have to eat 1 hour before taking my nexium and if I don't take
it in the morning it almost never gets taken later in the day.
How could a new breakfast
> product help you skip less often?
If it contained Nexium
What would it need to be like?
Cold Lasagna
> - How often do you personally drink milk?
Depends.  How much fat does it contain?  Dairy is only worth it if in
pizza or lasagna or chocolate milk.. but never milk for breakfast.
Makes me queasy.
When do you drink it?
After breakfast.. usually at night though
> - How important is breakfast to you?

not at all important?

Why do you say that?

Because I don't have a personal cook and sometimes I am too lazy to eat. :P

i like cold spaghetti stuffed in half a pita pocket. yum! :)
Boo doesn't like the texture of lasagna so i haven't bothered
making it in a few years. he has recently said he's willing to
try eating it again, so it's on this months menu.

nah, breakfast bars have HFCS. i don't eat that.
besides, a pizza breakfast bar would be a calzone & those
already exist :) would you eat a spaghetti calzone if we
heated it up for you?

>- What is your ideal weekday breakfast?

nothing. I begin eating at lunchtime.

>- Why, if ever, do you skip breakfast?

I skip everyday because eating in the mornings makes me extremely
sleepy and if I eat before about 11am I get an awful headache and have
to go to sleep.

>How could a new breakfast
>product help you skip less often?

I doubt anything could help!

> What would it need to be like?

It just needs to be like 11am or so.

>- How often do you personally drink milk? When do you drink it?

I drink milk about once a month, the night before I start my period. I
have a terrible craving for it, I drink about 2 glasses of it, and the
next morning there's Aunt Flo.

>- How important is breakfast to you? Very important, somewhat

It is important that I NOT eat breakfast. Breakfast is very important
to my children.

Tea and biscuits would be ideal but that's not what I have every day.
I eat oatmeal with a fruit, brown sugar, nuts and raisins mixed in.
When I'm in a rush or out of fruits, I eat a peanut butter sandwich.

> - Why, if ever, do you skip breakfast?
I never ever ever skip breakfast unless I'm going for annual physical
when I can't have breakfast. That is once a year.

>How could a new breakfast
> product help you skip less often?  What would it need to be like?

Your product is unnecessary for me.

> - How often do you personally drink milk? When do you drink it?

hmmm.. I haven't had milk in nearly 4 years. I either drink coffee or
tea and juice very rarely.

> - How important is breakfast to you? Very important, somewhat

Breakfast is extremely important to me. That's why I never miss it.

Hope that helps.

There is no higher priority than breakfast in the morning.

Meusli with yoghurt and fruit and lots of coffee.

Never even if it qualifies as lunch.

No obviously not.
> - How often do you personally drink milk? When do you drink it?
Very seldom, on cereal rarely.
> - How important is breakfast to you? Very important, somewhat

Very important to restore the body and fire up the energy with
longlasting non sugar fuel.

But no I am not looking for a new product to try. Your first line is a
lie, and almost all mums I know will try get the breakfast done even
letting other chores wait. There's nothing hard, imo, about getting your
breakfast done while you do the family's.

low fat no sugar yogurt, bit of granola and a bunch of fruit (usually
blueberries or peaches). all mixed together

Sometime if I'm rushed with kids in the morning I might forget until
midmorning

How could a new breakfast product help you skip less often?
I don't skip that often and why would I buy a new product when I have to
best portable breakfast food around...fruit

What would it need to be like?
like a banana

> - How often do you personally drink milk?
Every day, I love the stuff

When do you drink it?
usually a glass at a meal or with a muffin, also get my milk products from
yogurt and cheese

> - How important is breakfast to you? Very important

Why do you say that?
because breakfast kicks starts your metabolism and I'm usually incredibly
hungry in the morning

why would yogurt have sugar in it, unless it was a flavored
one (in which case why would you add fruit & granola)?
i like yogurt with molasses & coconut. it's pretty digusting
looking but it tastes good.

or an apple, an orange, a plum, a bunch of grapes..

I Like Vanilla Yogurt and it is really good with manderin oranges,
sliced apples and bananas or many other berries and fruits.  It tastes
better then the fruit flavored yogurt but some brands tend to be too sweet.

i only eat full fat yogurt, so my only choice has been
Stonyfield Farm. i think their vanilla is a bit sweet, but the
plain is really good. i dislike strawberry & blueberry yogurt,
& the only other full fat flavor is vanilla truffle, which is
chocolate. Boo likes it. i think it's too sweet.
Cabot has started selling a 'Greek style' full fat yogurt
which is *really* good & the vanilla and fruit flavors
(peach!!!) aren't excessively sweet. it also comes in honey,
but i haven't tried that flavor yet.
i buy plain yogurt by the quart & use it to replace the milk
when making Annie's Mac & Cheese and in mashed potatoes.

I tend to only eat yogurt that has about 15 grams of carbs listed.  The
full carb yogurt, about 45 grams is too sweet for me and I dislike it now.

plain whole milk yogurt has around 10 carbs per 8 oz (and most
mass market yogurt cups are only 4-6 ounces). a well made
plain yogurt doesn't really need sugar because it shouldn't be
any more "sour" than sour cream.
45 carbs sounds like there must be a lot of fillers in that
yogurt. most of the low fat & fat free yogurts are loaded with
thickeners because they're basicly made with water.
another thing to look out for in mass market yogurt (or any
premade food/drink really) is high fructose corn syrup. HFCS
makes you hungrier & shuts off the enzymes in your brain that
tell you that you are full. it's amazing what that crap is
found in. we don't buy anything with HFCS anymore, so i'm
baking all our hamburger & hot dog buns, making soda pop &
more soups (the second ingredient in Campbell's Tomato is
HFCS!), etc. i was hoping the conversion of corn to ethanol
production would make HFCS less attractive to manufacturers,
but it appears to only be help drive the rise in prices
instead.

Kiticat - 20 Jan 2008 08:21 GMT
>> lee <btw, yogurt is easy to make at home>

it is - its an absolute doddle. We bought a 1 litre yogurt maker in the
summer and havent looked back. I used some good commercial yogurt as our
starter initially then save some of the yogurt each time for the next
batch. Sometimes if it gets weak or a bit odd we user a fresh starter.
Only other ingredient is UHT milk so we dont even need to boil it. We
use full fat but have used skimmed and its fine, just needs a bit more
starter and a bit longer. We just switch the maker on, add a bit of
yogurt and a litre of milk and then return in 8-9 hours.

We flavour it with fruit. If I have pears or apples that are going soft
I cook then with spices and use that. Coconut is good. If I'm feeling
lazy we use maple syrup or just plain.

Most of the yogurts where I am have added sugar in them. There are a few
though sweetened with fruit juices.

Ideal? It's just a necessity. Just a sandwich.

Never. It's manditory as I have to take medication and can't take them on an
empty stomach.

It wouldn't.

I'm perfectly content with the sandwich, I don't like eating that early in
the morning.

Normal milk? Never. 0.5 litres of skimmed chocolate milk a day as per my
doc's instructions.

I don't eat breakfast every morning, when I do its oatmeal, or maybe a
couple biscuits.

Someone on one of my yahoogroups was asking about cream of wheat, and I
mentioned malt-o-meal hot cereal. its good, but I have not had it in years.

I went to the store tonight, and got a box.... gonna taste good in the
morning
