not at all. there are just as many pictures of battles & guns
on the wall in the coatroom as there has been for several
years.
if he were to, say, point a stick at another child & pretend
he was shooting, i would have no problems with him being
reprimanded. he knows that he must never do that, even in
play. however, if all the other boys can draw guns, teach my
kid to make rubber band guns, and play pretend guns, then it
really annoys me that my kid is reprimanded because he says he
target shoots with a pellet gun (at least he didn't mention
the .22 :p )
the boys in his class get away with talking about killing
people for ghod's sake, which is something *i* don't allow.
so, i'm going to an open house at another school on Sunday.
it's a bit more to drive every day, but it looks like it
offers more (choice of 4 languages in lower el, 6 languages in
upper el & 8 in jr.high, more arts, woodshop, computers
<including taking apart & building>, and lots more field
trips). if it's not as good in person, or it doesn't look like
a good fit, then i'll be homeschooling next year.
unfortunately, public school in this town is not an option.
