a lot of Americans that use cable modems to access have lost
Usenet services because of the Attorney General of NY filing a
class action complaint. he found 12 binary groups with <gasp>
pr0n & somehow convinced 4 major access corporations to drop
access.
i know Nan's provider droped all alt. & binary grups, & 3
others droped *all* Usenet. unless those folks find a free
Usenet provider or pay for an NNTP server access, they can't
contribute anymore... and a LOT of those people just can't
afford to buy access on top of what they pay the cable
companies.

Last night while sitting in my chair
I pinged a host that wasn't there
It wasn't there again today
The host resolved to NSA.

I know Nan posted about not having access anymore a while back in the Sanc.
In response I posted a link to free servers that carry alt.mothers. I never
heard back, so I don't know whether those servers work or not. They do work
for me.

Hm... How long ago was this?
I thought it was just me not getting anything new for a few days. A few of
my groups have been absolutely nothing new for the last 3-4 days or so (and
some of them are ones that seem to be fairly active with a few people
posting daily, at least, updates on this or that)
I also have been having some major issues with my news server. And a few
others with the same provider have had the same complaints about newsgroups
in general... So I thought it was just me.

omg! I had no idea that happened! I have been avoiding news because of all
the political crud and I missed that too. Darn! So when do our
restrictions end up like China? In two or five years? Sheesh. Not that I
support pr0n where it is readily available to kids, but this controling of
the end user instead of the source is punishing the class for the behavior
of one acting out kid, if you get my drift.

3 of the companies dropped Usenet in August, Time-Warner,
Roadrunner & another i forget. Comcast is dropping it the end
of this week. no reduction in charge, of course, although
they'll be saving buckets on not having to provide it.
what is really stupid is dropping *all* of usenet, instead of
the few groups that might have the issue (binaries groups).

That's very annoying
My issue has been Hurricane Ike and no access while evacuated.
And not as much time because we need to do alot to our house.
