I have a 12 mos. old who has a cold and doesn't cough that much when
awake but has a naptime/nighttime cough.
Favorite cough remedies? Favorite over-the-counter meds for cough?

I have found that running a vaporiser in the room helps. It keeps the air
moist and can help settle the coughing down. Hope it helps

For a 12 month old, I wouldn't use anything more than a cool mist
humidifier.
Just an anecdotal story for you to consider.
My 3.7 dd had a slight cold that went away, except for a nighttime
cough. I finally took her to the doctor and she was dx'd with
pneumonia :-(
So if your little one's cough lingers, it may be something you want to
call a doctor about.
Either way, I'd call for recommendations/dosages for any meds for one
that young.

Sadly, other than humidity or sometimes cool air, and definitly propping
them up all you can do is comfort them and wait days/weeks sometimes
until it settles. Cough medicines imho are pretty rubbish. But if it
does continue its worth getting their chest listened to, to make sure
there is no hidden wheeze. Night time coughs are very frustrating - you
have my full sympathy.

consider that it might be asthma? my littlies have this sort of thing,
especially when they get a bit sick. sometimes asthma medication and a
drink of water will stop the cough

I am surprised to hear that other folks have not had good results with cough
medicine. We have used the Robitussin's for various age children with very
good success. Moisture in the air also helps, but it is no cinecure. If
she is bringing up gunk consider a visit to the doc if things don't settle
within four or five days.

I use Robitussin and/or Dimetapp, depending on the symptoms.
(I don't like meds that have half a dozen medicines in them)
But when E was 12 months I wouldn't have used an otc med for a cough
without consulting her ped. first.

last night I tried sudafed linctus on me and K (cos its the tickly gunk
down the back of the throat). It worked quite well on me, not at all on her.
