The results from this morning's u/s: all is well! Two tiny hearts beating,
two little babes growing. They are exactly the same size, and lag a couple
of days wrt singletons, but for twins that means all is right on track! My
parents are over, and went with us to see for real. I think my mom was
more nervous than I was, but she really enjoyed it. For my dad it was a
first!

And to top it off, I got shortlisted for another job back home. They
called me yesterday to talk about this position, as it would be more
technical and less science. I don't mind at all, I've always wanted to be
more involved in building astronomical instruments, this would be a great
opportunity for me.

It seems all the good things come in pairs lately. I'm just relishing
myself in this feeling today. We are now really out of the first risky
phase, although still in the risky first trimester. It is getting more and
more real for me and DH that this is truly happening. We discussed our
plans for moving with the gyn, and she agreed that April to mid May would
be our best time frame to do that.

So now it is waiting for that job, and off we go!

It comes and goes. I've been upping my protein intake and eating even more
frequently than I already did. In combination with getting plenty of rest,
this seems to keep the morning sickness under control. Some days I am
totally miserable, but today I feel pretty good, though tired.

I had two eggs for breakfast this morning, something I usually don't have,
and the difference with the MS is really obvious. Apparently it pays off
to try to keep my blood glucose levels as constant as possible. So time
for another snack ;-)

Ok this is in NO way meant to make worry, but that's not really correct.
Twins shouldn't measure any smaller or behind, especially fraternals,
than a singleton at any time in gestation, the myth twins are smaller
comes from the fact they tend to come a little earlier (sometimes) than
singletons.  Which should not make you think something is wrong because
as you know there is a range in growth even for singletons as to where
they sit, and a few days is neither here nor there.

Andrea
Ilse Witch - 28 Jan 2005 15:35 GMT
> Ok this is in NO way meant to make worry, but that's not really correct.

We compared the u/s with the one we made from DS at around the same time.
The twins measure 1.9cm at 9w1d since LMP, DS measured 1.8cm at 8w5d since
LMP. Both are estimated at 8w4d gestational age, in spite of the 0.1cm
difference. However, given that my LMP dates are quite exact, I think this
looks pretty good. The error on both measurements is about 5 days either
way, and the twins have been looking a few days smaller from the start. At
least they are growing continuously at a good rate, and both the tech and
the gyn said not to worry.

That's the most important thing, consistent growth, being a few days
either side of average' is neither here nor there, and certainly not
'twin thing', in fact often twins measure bigger than singletons.
My girls started out pretty much neck and neck (although my first
ultrasound wasn't until about 15 weeks) and the gap gradually got bigger
until at the end of the pregnancy there was almost 5 weeks between their
estimated due dates based on size measurements and Rose had not grown at
all for around 2 weeks. They were born 1lb 6oz apart in size but soon
caught back up. Amelia is still taller though, but she's taller than
most 5 year olds anyway, she's a tall bond dutch girl, I'm sure you know
plenty of them ;-)

lol
How tall are you? I was watching something on discovery channel that
said this generation of Dutch men are now the tallest in the
world....not that you are a man <g> just that I would assume the hight
was not just a male thing and there would be a correlation with the
womens heights as well.
My Husband is 6'4" and his brother 6'3" and when he lived there a few
years ago said he was pretty much an average height. Then our eldest hit
6'5" by aged 15 and even though his growth has slowed since, he's
probably close to 6'6" now at nearly 17, and our second who is 15 is
6'2" and still growing. I'm pretty sure my girls will hit the 6' mark
too by puberty.....I just need someone to blame for their giantism and
my Dutch husband seems like a nice option lol

I've heard that too, we're followed closely by the Norwegians. I come from
a family of tall men, my brother and father are both almost 2m tall (6'6"),
but my mom is tiny. I averaged my parents with 5'11", which is tall even
for most Dutch women.

DS follows suit and is currently exacly 1m tall (3'3"), which even for
Dutch standards is above the 95th percentile...

I'll say! I'm just 5'11" (1.69) :-).

My parents are about the same height though, so it was to be expected
:-). My brother is 1 m. 86, so he's the tall one of the family.

I'm just 1 m. 69 cm. and 3 mm (about 5'7"), which happens to be the
exact average height for women in my age group LOL.

Well, yes, the Dutch are amongst the tallest people in the world. I'm

that tower above me LOL.

We just compared DS's u/s at 8w5d with this one at 9w1d. The twins are
19mm and DS was 18mm at the time, so that's pretty good agreement. With
the slight lag we've had from the start, I'm happy!

That is so very cool. When I was a kid, my dream was to be an astronomer.
That is what I always dreamed of doing.

I ended up majoring in English in college and dropping out in my junior
year. :/ Then going back, and taking some CISCO (computer) courses at a 2
year school.
