For this Florida mom who hasn't dealt with a cold winter in many years...
I've got a curiosity question.

If the day time highs are in the 30's and you will have ski pants on, do you
think DS (11yr old active boy) will need long underwear (thermals) under a
pair of pants under the skipants, or will he be ok with just pants or
sweats?

He shouldn't need thermals if the temps are above 0, though he
certainly can wear them if he feels cold.  I wouldn't wear them under
ski pants myself unless it was below 0.

I'm assuming that this is for sking?  Just pants and sweats would be fine
for during the day...
maybe pack the thermals JIC and let him decide?

This time of year the air is warming rapidly.  I'd go without the long johns
as long as he promises to wear the ski pants.  no ski pants, he might like
the long underwear to protect from wetness throught the day.

Thanks.  RL has been hectic and I don't see the end in sight.  We *should*
close on the house Apr 1, if the financing agency behaves [they haven't
been], but we have a second one in the bag, at a slightly higher interest
rate since the first one started acting like idiots after rates started to
rise.  Been attending training after training, nearly all about a 2.5 hour
drive [one way] from home.  Most, like the one I'm going to today through
Fri., I come home daily as I'd rather be with family than stuck in a hotel
room with cable tv, my embroidery and burger king take out.

Spring's knocking at our door, though [as is New England mud season, for
those of you kno the know], we'll be moved out of my parents' house and into
ours by the end of April [redoing kitchen first [etc], and my Florida sports
car seems to be a hot commodity [several potential buyers phoned this week,
yeah!!!!]

Well, take care, I peep in as I can.

Heya! Nice to see you're still around.  :)

You're missed a great deal here...but I understand.  Take care of

Hi Aula, It's good to see you .. I hope your move goes well and quickly.
Before you know it you will be used to all that snow and mud (if your not
already)
Do you miss FL at all?

Well, I'm mainly used to the snow  [and happy that the twelve inches last
night/this a.m. was on the *other* side of the State, and am really looking
forward to lilacs and violets.

Florida???? Yeah, I miss certain aspects and people, and maybe I'll think of
retiring there [ha ha], but it is nice to be back near family [usually].

Thanks. Mee too. Hubby isn't going to hold out much longer from what I can
tell so the closing next Friday is a real blessing!

Thanks for the update - I hope you get squared away with the financing and  hope
for the lower rate - every little bit helps and it adds up. 2.5 hour drive one
way a day though is awful.

We might be doing some remodeling too. DD has a whole list for the spring
(painting floors etc) well we will see how the $$ are going to come in or not.

if it's above 32, he'll be dying if he wears thermals under
skipants. sweating too much is a *bad* thing. skip the long
underwear.
i have a hard time getting Boo to wear a coat if it's above
freezing, never mind the snowpants. once it hits 32, he wants
just a shirt-jacket (wool, quilted lining), at 40 we all wear
sweatshirts.

What's he going to be doing?  Skiing?  High altitude or "not
particularly"?  At this time of year, the sun is higher in the sky and
30 on a sunny day can feel a lot warmer than it did 6 weeks ago.  I
think he'll be okay with jeans and ski pants.  JMO.  From Minnesota.

He should be fine w/o them unless it is very windy.
We save thermals for when it is very bitter.  Under 0 or when the wind chill
is under 0.

Forget the long-johns. 30's is not that cold. But I guess it also depends on
what he is used to. Above 30 DD wears short sleves and maybe a light Jacket. But
then we are used to it. Maybe runs in the genes. Heat is set at 60 and we sleep
w/o PJ's. But then that comes from a guy who shovels snow in his T-shirt. How
cold is cold is subjective. and depending on how thick your blood is. Let him
step outside for a minute to try it out.
