Well my little monkey read her first book out loud to me today :)))
Shes been wanting to read for ages and has been picking up words here
and there. I wasnt sure whether to try her on one of those Reading
schemes cos I like the idea of her learning naturally but I thought her
learning a few key words might help her a little so I bought the first
five in a scheme.
It took her 3 or 4 days to get the hang of the first one (reading 5 mins
a day), today we got out the second one and apart from a couple of words
she read it to me :)))

Shoot! I should have taken bets that you say something like that,
you! Has much to due with you, you encourage and interact. That's
good mothering and don't you forget it! :=P~~

YaY!! Hope it's not too big for her bicycle. That took a lot longer
to reach you than I thought it would, strange.

Hey, you homeschooling mom, isn't it neat when you see your kids do things
like this. I often feel like another major miracle has happened when DS
learns something that takes real brain work. yesterday I came home to hear
he has learned the 2x tables and the countries in North America. A quiz
this morning resulted in 100% correct answers and a very happily grinning
boy. I was walking on clouds to see him accomplish that and know it is all
due to husband's efforts, too. So, you keep up your good work and you will
see your DD bloom right before your eyes, too. And, don't forget, you
homeschooled her in beginning reading, which is probably the hardest part of
reading education.

good for your ds!!! and your dh too.
To be honest though, K mostly teaches herself, she makes me feel like a
bit of a cheat.

ah, but you see you give her the opportunity, the encouragement, the good
role modeling, and some assistance as needed. Who taught her to recognize
letters? I doubt that she picked that up on her own with absolutely no
assistance from you! Who applauds correct efforts and gently corrects the
incorrect ones? Come on, that's teaching big time!

Good news! How old is your little one again? Sorry, the roll call topic
is getting too long (or I´m just too lazy to look it up!). I´ve been
intrigued by Maarten´s eagerness to learn how to read. He won´t stop
asking us ´what does it say there?´ Apart from that he has a learning
game where he gets to spell a word based on pictures that are displayed.
It´ll be fun to see when he will make the connection between the words
(which he already knows) and the individual letters.

Brilliant Sarah, well done to Miss K :-) We are working on the
alphabet atm, and I have no clue what is normal for a nearly 2 year
old, but I reckon my baby is a genius, of course LOL!
