How old are babies when they can have raw fruit, that has been mashed.
My other question is about avocado.  I know it's good for babies but do I have
to cook it first or mash it up raw?  What is a good age to start avocado?
She will be 6 months soon, so it's a little early to start her on all of the
above, I was just wondering?
Thanks!

Food at this age is more for practice than nutrition, IMO.  I would
start with single grain cereals like brown rice, millet, rolled oats.
Fruits and veggies should be mild (don't want any of that gas!), try
winter squash, sweet potato, bananas papaya, mango and pears.  Don't
forget the 4 day rule to test for allergic reactions.  Also try
feeding in the morning or afternoon because if Miss Z gets gassy
better during the day than at night causing everyone to lose sleep.

IIRC, avocados are an excellent first food to try.  No need to cook,
just peel and mash.

Have fun!

I guess I should have stated my question better.
At what age can babies have mashed raw fruit?
And do I need to cook avocado?  (thanks for letting me know, I'm not an avocado
eater, so I wasn't sure.

yes! Boo started Avacadoes at around 7 months. do NOT cook avacado
(yuck!). i wouldn't freeze it either. a bit of lemon juice will keep it
from getting brown & nasty looking if you have leftovers.
Angie, Evy can eat his avacado as cubes if you want. Boo loves
guacamole, too.

avocados (pref. hass, imo) are great nutrient-dense foods for babies, you
can start 'em off as soon as 6mo. ithink.  check askdrsears.com for more
info.  he's recommended avocados as baby food.  just mash it up, don't cook.
raw is fine =)  try grabbing a copy of the baby book or family nutrition
book by dr. sears and reading it.  most libraries have copies of it to
borrow =)
