Google sucks dead road kill now. A useful, easy-to-use tool has been
tampered with and made useless.

Are there ANY other choices out there for pulling USENET posts out of
the dark?

Many thanks.

There are quite a few free servers you can set up in your newsreader,
but many of them don't allow posting and a lot of them show your ISP
in clear if they do allow posting.

You can find a list here:
http://www.newzbot.com/

I set up a bunch in mozilla to see if they worked.  The problem is
they don't all carry all the groups you want, especially alt. groups.
You can search by group on that list and figure out which servers
carry most of the groups you read.

I've got several news feeds already (x-privat.org being VERY reliable.)

I was hoping for an archiving tool similar to the old DejaGoog where
articles that participants had posted in the past were still available
for review.

I don't use x-no archive and several posts to a particular group are not
available, as in they don't exist -- according to Google -- even though
I have "proof" sitting in an old file.

What did you search by?

They are probably still out there, but the new interface doesn't seem
to catch everything it should in searchs.

Try searching the Indian or UK google
at
http://www.google.co.in./advanced_group_search
or
http://www.google.co.uk./advanced_group_search

They still have the old interface, I think.  The beta is a mess, imo.

My address, date, message number, and key words/phrases using
groups.google.ca. Still nothing returned. I then went generic using date
and name. I wasn't aware of so many "ranger" uses out there. <G> Still
no hits.

It doesn't do anything but create a difficult-to-read jumble.

I'll give 'em a try... I'm not hopeful, though.

Done did. No hits through beta-groups. What a mess!

Looks like the ones I gave have been changed over to beta.

Alternatively, try this search.  It's old.  Jeremy Nixon wrote it
back when googlegroups was deja. It works, but I can't say
if it will find waht you want.

I've been using the later when I'm at the office and it hasn't been too bad.

There are tons of other freebees out there that are read only (can't post
to)
