Hi all, bit of an etiquette/peer pressure question. Katherine has been
invited to a friends birthday party after school tomorrow. Unfortunately
it starts at 4pm and she has after school drama which finishes at 4:15.
the earliest she would make it to the party is a bit after 4:30 assuming
I could get a lift. Its the last drama class of this term.

After some discussion I said Katherine could miss drama and go to the
party. So I put in a note to the drama teacher last week apologising for
Katherine absence tomorrow.

Ive just been talking to an irate Mum who said that the birthday child
also goes to drama as do several other kids who are going to the party.
So that means the class will be severely depleted.

I now feel bad for saying Katherine could miss it cos I think its
disrespectful to the teacher if loads of kids arent going to be there
when the teacher puts in her time and effort to teach the kids.

The mum I talked to was upset as we've all decided to go to the party
instead so it makes it hard for her to make a stand and make her kid do
drama.

So should I rescind everything Ive decided do you think and send our
apologies to the party girl and undo our apologies to the drama
teacher?? or should I keep to my original decision??

Ive made my decision!! I decided it was too rude to the drama teacher so
I phoned the irate Mum and we've come to the conclusion that our kids
will go to drama and then go from there to the party late. If theres two
together it wont be so bad for them.
phew.

Sounds like a very appropriate decision to me.

Best wishes,

Sounds perfect.
I wonder why the mother of the birthday child picked that day and time?

According to irate mum birthday child mum thought it was important to
have the party on her birthday. I suspect then the venue couldnt handle
a later slot. not what I would have done but Im not her <G>

I think you made the right choice.  This has come up at our house on
occasion.

stick with your original decision if K wants to party.  It's unfortunate
about the drama class, but it's not a perfect world.  It's REALLY too
bad it's the last class.  Is there a snowball's chance that the teacher
would cancel the class and reschedule for next week, since so many
kidlets will be absent from it?  I have no idea how large the class is,
but if only 4 of 12 will be there, I'd try to reschedule if I were
teacher.   JM tuppence worth.

Does everyone turn into such a giant pussy when they have a kid?
What a stupid problem. Go away and figure it out on your own.
