We were discussing this with our youth the other day in the break room at
VBS, it is so frightening and attacks with practically NO warning what so
ever. It's so scary and makes me feel like I can't even be prepared for
something like that.

I would, if I had any clue why I should see a clip especially if I have
major difficulties understanding spoken english. Plese, if you link to a
video clip, say what it is about. Especially if it's something kids
shouldn't see, as I often read newsgroups with one or both of my kids
sitting in the same room with me. I'll hazard the guess that I am not
alone in this.

I just tried to open the link, but stopped the browser when it took
firefox more than two minutes to open it.

Gruß,
Diana

PS: Netiquette in German Usenet says links should always be accompanied
by a small summarize of the content of the link. Is this different in
English Usenet?

The link is about inflammatory breast cancer, a variety I certainly had
never heard about. I personally wouldn't consider the clip to be
'unsuitable to be seen by children'. It features pictures of breasts,
(which few in the Netherlands would get upset about kids seeing ;-) ),
but it also features examples of breasts that have been affected by the
disease (although I doubt that a child would know just what they are
seeing, other than perhaps 'funny looking boob'...)

I Googled a bit and found this site (text) http://www.ibcsupport.org/,
it's available in German too. Can't vouch for the quality of the site
(I'm pressed for time ATM, so can't go over the entire site right now),
but it certainly looks legit and there are pictures you can see on the
site as well (you'll have to click on them, they don't just pop up
unexpectedly).

I believe it is worth knowing about this.

I've only had broadband for less than a week, that amount of time seems
still totally normal to me <g>.

I think there are a lot of things going on in all countries (regardless
of their native tongue) that are not consistent with netiquette. I for
one am glad that Sue posted the information.

Thanks for that page. The link to the German translation throws a 404,
BTW, but I understood the English text just fine. ;-)

Thanks a lot for taking the trouble, Mo, I appreciate it.

Oh yes.

I think an apology to Sue is in order.
Sorry, Sue, I was irritated today morning due to my kids' antics, so my
post came across much harsher than I intended it to be.
I still think a small comment wouldn't hurt when posting a link, due to
lots of reasons, but I am grateful to you that you made me aware of IBC.

Gruß,
Diana,
with two kids at home that are too ill to attend kidnergarten (heavy
coughing), but too healthy and fit to lay down at home or kept quiet.
And it's wet enough outside that I can't let them play outside with that
cold. *sigh* It's nice to know they're not having something I should
worry about, but active children in such a small flat grate on my
nerves. I hate having to arbitrate an arguement or something similar
every ten minutes, or so it seems!

My apologies
I left the subject out on purpose given that a lot go "oh breast cancer, I
know about it and get checked" as this is a very different form without the
usual signs or symptons

Actually, English (or at least American) netiquette says links should
be accompanied by a small summary too.

But, Sue's from NZ, They are a bit funny down there.  :-)  (ducks,
runs, hides behind a sheep)  (lubs ya!)

I wouldn't mind a summary either since, for some unknown reason, I
couldn't get the sound to work. It wasn't just out of cinque but
nonexistent. The video clip was also quite poor so instead of being
able to see anything, all I got was a bunch of fuzzy blobs. I gathered
from the navigator title what the piece was about but some text or a
summary would be great, too.

It was a news story about Inflammatory Breast Cancer, an accelerated
form of cancer not detectable by BSE or mammogram.  I found info at
Webmd:

I had thought the same exact thing.  I am on dialup and it is hard to know
if I should wait the forever these things take to load if I dont know what
it is.  I did end up watching the whole thing though.

Up until a week ago I would have skipped the link altogether because of
the dialup, so IKWYM ;-). This one certainly was worth watching, because
IMO every woman should know about this (either through this link or
through another). Some of those pictures have such 'innocent' looking
skin problems on them...

I sometimes find that these pages will only load in IE which is
annoying since my normal browser is mozilla or firefox.

It's a good thing you don't study at OU then...;-). They pretty much
exclude every non Micro$oft product. Which is why I won't even bother
learning to use other browsers etc. I can't see myself hopping back and
forth from one programme to another ;-).

I couldn't open it at all because the computer just shut down because it
took so long to load.

Thanks Diana.  I often just feel I should let it go but I do wish we all
could preface what it is in the link.  I think I have done the same
thing as Sue did and I will think before I do that again.

Thank you! I'm passing it along on my livejournal and a few communities.
(Gave me the willies though. I have a bug bite on my breast, and I know it's
a bug bite cause I killed the stupid mosquito, but it still made me go
"ACK!")
