If my memory is still working wasn't someone on here into bugs and things?

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/scrumble/images/nature/bugs/

Anyone have any idea what these are. Theres a load of them in the stream
on the rockery in our garden. From a distance they look like leeches, but
close up they look more like some sort of insect larvae.

The reason I think they're insect larvae is they look to have gills on
their backsides :)

They only seem to have pond animals on that site, these are in fast
flowing water.

maybe chironomid midge larvae???

I googled watercress pests cos they are the only plant I can think of
that likes fast flowing water.

Blackfly larvae. It seems I had them back to front as well, the bit that I
thought was their backside is actually the head :)

They also bite, when adult :S

They bite very seriously, let me tell you!  Black fly season here in New
England is time to stay out of the woods!

We've had them in the back yard for years, but I can't say I've ever been
bitten by them.

Either the UK edition is slightly different, or they just don't like the
taste of  me :)

If you like to eat potato chips
and chew pork chops on clipper ships,
I suggest that you chew
a few chips and a chop
at Skipper Zipp's Clipper Ship Chip Chop Shop.
