what am I doing up!???

Well part of it is a bad cough... not mine but my daugthers. Blah... and
we are out of cough syrup.  I know the stuff doesn't work but it does
get her some sleep.

I think I will go and buy some?

Blah...

Night coughs are the absolute pits. You have my full sympathies!!
Things that we've tried that occasionally work:
warm honey and lemon (I was suprised that this actually had some effect)
throwing open the windows
closing the windows
humidifying the air
sudafed (seems to sometimes stop the postnasal drip)
really good quality dark chocolate

Last time we got one was in the States. We went to urgent-care as it was
the day before our flight home. It turned out to be a sinus infection
causing the cough and treating that actually helped. Was also given
cardec-dm syrup and it seemed pretty good.

I hope that your dd feels better and that you all get a good sleep tonight.

Sudafed actually helped our older dd so she was asleep.  I do think she
has nasal drip that gets her coughing.  I did a breathing treatment on
our little guy and he slept well. His cough seems to be from his chest.
Our little dd seems to get sleep with a cough suppressant. Not sure what
is up with her cough. I actually found some in a hall closet and she was
able to sleep.  It is amazing how 3 different kids get 3 different
coughs.  ;  )

I had forgotten about honey and lemon... i've used tea honey and lemon
or hot water honey and lemon too.  The girls and I like the warm drinks.
I didn't have honey but I will get some. She's 6 so that should not
be a problem using honey.

Thanksgiving night we went out for a brisk walk and that seemed to help
on that particular night.

Coughs seem to linger and I've never found anything that takes them away
completely except time.

Thanks Sarah...

E has those lingering coughs.  I tend to have her see a dr. if it's
lasted a while since I missed the pneumonia when she was younger, but
her coughs tend to be due to post nasal drip, that is caused by
probable allergies.  Getting through allergy season has been the only
cure for her.

I missed my older daughter's pneumonia as well.  After her fever cleared
I just thought it was all going to get better from there but I realized
her other symptoms got worse and I missed the boat on that.  She was
getting better by the time she saw the doctor but it was quite alarming.

At this point no one has had a fever and no one is showing any other
symptoms but the coughs and nasal drips.  I do think that is what is
going on but we may get a doctor involved if it doesnt' clear up soon
just to be sure.

Crikey!! I think its bad enough with one coughing child - you poor woman!!!

Thats true. sometimes I've felt so desperate with Ks coughs but then I
can hear my neighbour coughing at night and shes a doctor. If she can't
find a  useful medicine then there really isn't much hope for us mere
mortals ;-)

Thankfully only 1 seems to be up nights but it can be frustrating to
help these poor kids calm the cough vibes when it kicks in.

Yep... I have been told that coughs actually can be good for removing
the problem... that if they didn't cough it could be worse but the poor
babies need sleep.
