A soapy taste

I have had a weird soap-like taste in my mouth all day. At first I thought
there was something wrong with the water at work but it hasn't gone away
since I left work 5 hours ago. Eating dinner (chicken and veges), drinking
orange juice and pigging out on gummy bears have not helped. I'm fine to eat
and the soapy taste doesn't interfere with my enjoyment of food or drink
(like I can't taste it when I have other tastes in my mouth) but it comes
back about 5 minutes later and just continues to bother me. It's not very
strong, just kind of sitting in the background the whole time, making my
mouth taste kind of soapy/alkaline.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? Is it a symptom of something? Or
a common occurence in pregnancy?  I'm in week 26 if that helps localise it
any...

Alas, it is not that uncommon a pregnancy symptom.
For some, it sticks around the whole pregnancy :-/  People
sometimes find that tart things help a little bit (lemon
drops, lemonade, etc.), but sometimes nothing much helps.

Best wishes,

Could it be your vitamins? I have to take my vitamins in the evening
for just that reason. :)

It's most likely not the vitamins because, like you, I take them in the
evening. As Ericka said, it's probably just the pregnancy making itself felt
in yet another way.

Oh, well. At least that could've been fixed. :)

I've not had the soapy taste during my pregnancy thus far, but it's
something I have experienced in the past. Sometimes I would get a soapy
aftertaste from Sprite Zero, but other times I would just get it
randomly and couldn't for the life of me think of what would have
caused it. Thus far what I've seen from casual research involved either
hornomal issues or metabolism (speeding up, burning fat). The only
possible remedy I've seen for the metabolism cause of the "soapy taste"
is "drink more water!" But I don't know if water would do anything for
hormonal issues, which would be the most likely culprit of the two
possibilities given that you're pregnant. Of course, drinking water is
a good idea anyway.. just maybe try water from a different source than
you've been using lately and see if that helps? And of course tell your
doctor, even if it goes away. I never had the soapy taste for an entire
day before, usually I had it for half an hour at most.

I had a metallic taste, rather than soapy. I heard weird tastes in the
mouth can be a pregnancy thing.

Like Elle, I have a metallic taste in my mouth. It even caused me not
to eat as much. It is due the pregnancy.
