My husband is the best! He just brought home one of the new Roomba vacs
as a surprise. We'd both read about them and thought they were neat.
Last night he stopped at the mall on his way home and bought one. It's
so fun to watch it work! It spins around, lingers on dirty spots, avoids
the stairs, and seems to remember where it's been.
Now at least we won't have to worry about keeping the floors clean,
which will be really helpful during the next few months as it becomes
harder and harder to see my own feet let alone the carpet, LOL. And I
know we won't want to bother running a regular vacuum with a new baby in
the house, even though it'll be dirtier than ever. It's also really
quiet, so I think we'll be able to use it when little what's-his-name is
sleeping. :D

neat! I wish DH would stop off at the mall and buy me a maid.. hehe though
if I would get on it this placew should take less then an hour a day to make
company ready. Right now it would take me close to 3 hours including
dishes.. *sigh*

I would really like to get one of those. We only have two rooms with
carpeting, so it would be easy to fence the little fella off, and with cats
in the house, we get fur buildup if I miss even a day or two of vacuuming.

Trying to imagine how our cat would view the Roomba... Probably as a foul
fiend from heck if I know the cat...

I like my Roomba. However, you may find that the baby loves the regular
vacuum and you may need it to make the baby fall asleep. The regular vacuum
was the best thing for DS. It was like a drug. Put him to sleep in 2
seconds flat. Don't think it's too loud. Not at all.

I guess our floors are *too* dusty because it seemed like I was
CONSTANTLY cleaning out the *tiny* little waste compartment. It was
like I had to babysit it too much -- and it got stuck under the sofa
everytime. We ended up taking ours back. I was sad because I was soo
excited to get it...:-(

I would like to try something like this, but I wonder how it would
survive in a house with two dogs and a cat? Our house is full of
carpeting. We would need at least one per floor. Are these things
chew-proof? ;-)
Maya - 29 Jul 2004 21:55 GMT
Yes, I can see how this thing would be perfect for pet owners! We're
thinking about getting a puppy while future DS is a toddler. I don't
know about chewproof (is anything?), but DH asked and the salesman said
it senses obstacles and automatically stops if it gets flipped over or
anything gets caught in it, so it's safe for little feet and tails.
I read up on it on the website, and it said to keep it from getting
stuck under sofas by placing books or other objects there. I suppose you
could also use the electronic wall thing, too. Too bad you had to send
it back. Apparently the dirt compartments are bigger in these new
models. If ours fills up too quickly, I guess I'll just try to run it
more often.

Heh... I was looking at this and thinking "How cool... a remote control
floor cleaner." Then I thought, "Hey, wait...that's what my 11-year-old is
for!"
(She's be been fantastically helpful this summer... she brings me something
to eat before I wake up every morning so I don't throw up as much. She even
cleaned the whole kitchen so we could make chocolate chip cookies without me
gagging at the contents of the kitchen sink... she even does my laundry
sometimes. Lest you think I work her to the bone, we've been having a blast
together this summer, staying up late making cookies together, watching
videos until 1 am, etc... last time she asked me for $1 I gave her $10
because she just doesn't ask for much. She's even been working for her
grandpa helping him with the remodel. I am *so* going to miss this in a
couple years when she hits that 13-year-old "I can't believe you're asking
me to DO anything" stage... But I've got to say, I mostly love this age. We
both know the aliens will come suck her brain out soon, but she's fighting
the good fight with that and *so* nice to be with right now.)
