im having another ultrasound soon to see if my baby is still breech.
i work at a place called rainbow ridge where im a residential advocate
for the mentally handicapped. ive worked there for 6 months now. working
with my clients has made me a little more nervous about the
possibilities of my child being mentally handicapped. ive had a really
good pregnancy (im 34 weeks on friday) so far and feel like nothing will
be wrong with my child. is it possible to tell by an ultra sound if the
baby is mentally handicapped? my last ultrasound was fine and i know my
baby doesnt have down syndrom but like i said working with mentally
handicapped people for the past six months has made me parinoid.

Most likely not. There are a few things (like
DS) that can sometimes be detected that are associated
with various mental handicaps, but there are many
other causes that are not detectable (not to mention
things that can happen during labor and delivery or
after birth). There is nothing you can do to
guarantee that your child will be perfectly normal.
Best wishes,
Ericka

No, nothing via u/s at this point in your pregnancy could indicate mental
delays. Hugs. Your baby is likely perfectly healthy!

Short answer, No. Some of the conditions which can cause developmental
disabilities can be detected via amnio, but even that won't get 100%,
because it will only get those which are caused by genetic change or damage.
I believe screening after birth for metabolic diseases can also detect some
things which can cause mental retardation if not treated.
