hello my learned friends.,
i am having an "elective" C as they call it. That is a given, dont go
there.
my due date is 16 april. I wanted to go as late as poss, and am looking at
11 april. I have the feeling my doc wnated the week before. i am going to
ask him again when i see him, but i just want to see what you guys and girls
all think.
child 1 - i had what i think was undiagnosed and therefore unmanaged gest.
diabetes - was induced at 41 weeks, laboured etc for something like 15
hours, not much happened in terms of dilation, ended up with an 'emergency
C', i think they call it obstructed labour, J was 10 Lb 7oz.
child 2 - ' elective' C section at 39.5 weeks, no sign of labour. bub 8 lb
7oz. gest. diabetes diagnosed and well managed.
child 3 - main reason i dont want to have the C earlier than the 39th week
is that he is plain and simply not cooked enough. I hear some GD babies
have underdone lungs, and also the other two were fairly easy to manage, i
dont want get this guy out of the oven early and find he has any probs.
maybe 1 week wouldnt make much of a diffrence there, but who knows.
if doc is concerned, i think it is because the hassle of spontaneous labour.
i have to be attended by a general surgeon also b/c i had an incisional
hernia repair. so spont. labour would be a hassle (for me too) but i think
it is unlikely, given i have never gone down that path before!
anyway, thanks for reading, i am hoping people say, yes, i would insist on
waiting, or 1 week makes no difference, go earlier! or whateverelse you
think! i appreciate your knowlege!
thanks ng!

so you've gone to 41 weeks, but never gone into labour, I'd have no worries
about scheduling your C for week 39, or push the boat out sometime in week
40, I think you are being sensible to let the baby cook for as long as
possible

I think its reasonable, given your history, to wait until 39.5. And if
you do go into spontaneous labor, all the better for the baby, you'll
definately know he's done cooking! If the only reason your doctor can
give you for scheduling earlier is convenience, I'd push for when you
want it.

I'd wait till at least 40 weeks and if you do go into labor, so much
the better for baby. I had one preplanned section for a breech baby
and chose to go into labor to let baby experience some of the benefits
and so she would pick her own birthday. My other two sections occurred
during labor as well; really no big deal.

I always feel that absent issues that would mean danger for the baby
to wait a bit, that they're better off cooking as long as possible.
I'd wait.
