Well, we're going to do the pump and supplement thing for a while... I
discovered that while i *can* pump, nurse and feed with a syringe
simultaneously, it's not my preferred method. The whole process is rather
time consuming though. :(

She only gained an ounce and a half since last Monday. Not happy.

Sorry Jenrose! Between you, Leslie and Denise, we've had
a run of experienced breastfeeders with weight gain
issues. I hope Shiny wakes up soon!

What a pain!  Hang tough, and hope all gets on track soon!

Best wishes,

Ok, I know that you can't give the baby a cheeseburger, but is it
possible for you to eat something that would make your milk fattier, to
help her gain?  What if you drank those protein shakes that weight
lifters drink?  Could you make the breast milk she is getting more
potent somehow?  More bang for your suck, so to speak?

Amy (knows nearly nothing about breastfeeding, could be saying
something horribly stupid without meaning to)

It doesn't work that way.  It should, but it doesn't.  Your body makes
breastmilk ~22 cal/oz regardless of what you eat or ingest.  Something that
was suggested with us was to add fatty oils to DD's ebm after she was a few
weeks old.  Of course, I have a hard time getting DD to take EBM so that
doesn't work for us.  Between the lot of us, we're gonna figure out how to
fatten these babies up :)

Well, there goes my theory on how they make chocolate milk...

ugh.  Hang in there-that pumping/supplementing is tiring-talk about never
having your hands or breast free.  Anyway, I bet that Shiny will perk up
soon-I think that chubby postdate babies are a bit sleepier at first.

BTW-how the heck does a baby tolerate a head US?

This is Shiny we're talking about... she sleeps through it, of course.

Nice warm gel... head massage....
Kelly - 31 Mar 2005 07:20 GMT
Haha.  Still, can you imagine sleeping through an US like that?

We've got a mellow bub on our hands, too.  He was not at his birthweight at
the 2 week appointment, but he must have heard us deciding what to do about
it because he then bypassed his birthweight 3 days later.

Keep up the good work, I hope for you that each day gets a bit easier than
the previous and that you are very soon to breastfeeding without tubes and
pumps.
