xkatx - 12 Mar 2006 06:16 GMT A puppy! A little matlese-shih tzu. He's all black with a little white patch on his chest, and he's adorable. I surprised Norm with him, and Bran has yet to find out (as he's at Grandma and Grandpa's - along with Amie for the evening) I was suggesting random, stupid names, and then I went and looked up names from a variety of things. I came up with a list of characters from James Bond, and I suggested "Oddjob" and Norm liked it. So, we have a little black pup named Oddjob. I can't wait to see how Bran likes the idea, and I know he will. I'm pretty excited. He's so cute!

Dogs are great, but they are a HUGE responsibility and you're about to have another baby...

I know a dog is a huge responsibility and take a lot of time and so much more, but now that I've decided that I am not going to go back to regular work for a while, as I am going to be working on the Discovery Toys thing until *I* feel that *I* am ready and wanting to get back in school. I seem to have nothing but time. I find, lately, now that things seem to be a lot easier and calm, there's only so many times I can wash floors over and over again, and I'm not sure how many times I've rearranged the kitchen and living room. Heck, I even did A's room and my room... Moved everything around. I was about to do B's room, then I realized that I just couldn't move around a loft bed that kind of moves in pieces and comes apart. Instead, I ended up just clearing out all the toys that he doesn't play with. We're usually home most of the day, and although A and I take it easy during the mornings when B is at school, the afternoons are normally spent going for nice long walks with both kids tossed into the wagon (given it's a nice day out) or going to the park (not so much now that it's kind of colder out) or just going across the street where there's a nice little hill for sledding. Perfect sized one for a 5 year old as well. I really did think about it. I've wanted to get a little dog for quite some time, but when this opportunity came along, I was going to just jump in without thinking, but I did take some time (actually, about a week of good, hard thinking) and when I actually thought about the pros and cons of it all, I realized that with our lifestyle, a dog would actually fit fairly well in. Summers are spent often camping or just doing whatever. We go on nice little walks all year round, and we do bikeride as a whole family come spring/summer - excluding last summer where there was no way I could see myself on a bike at all. He's a male - he's cheaper than a female to fix. He does have his first shots, and we have a regular vet that my parents take their rat-catchers to and where I took my own cat to when I had one living back at home when I was about 12. Small dogs are terribly expensive to feed, I am able to clip hair and nails myself, and everything that I could think of, it just seemed to fit in with everything more than it didn't.

All that time on your hands?
What do you do? Sleep 16 hours and are flapping your mouth the other 8 hours. What a constructive life!

Congrats on yet another family addition. How'd Norm take it?

Things a person would have a hell of a time trying to explain to friends, family and neighbours... Something that you really *shouldn't* be calling from the back step... Names that would have the school calling first thing tomorrow morning asking what on earth a 5 year old is talking about in school and that he shouldn't be using that type of language ;)
> Congrats on yet another family addition. How'd Norm take it? He STILL won't admit it, but he loves the little guy! The second he saw him last night, he got a huge smile on his face, and he has taken a liking to him real quick.

We had had a week of explainations about why Kristopher (my grandson) had a penis and she had a vagina, we use the proper terms instead of all those little pet names people try and use to explain the human anatomy to children. I have now managed to finally convince her that vagina is not a good name for her turtle and we have refocused on Sheldon and Shelly now :-)

That's a great name, but maybe if your granddaughter was, oh, let's say 24ish, and hm... Yea, she'd have to have no kids of her own at that point and have no younger children around her turtle... Then that would be a great name... Maybe? Well, probably not... lol I've had a few convos with B about why he has a penis and Amie doesn't... He said, one day, that it looks like she has 2 bums. lol I had to explain to him that this is what girls have, bla bla bla, this is what boys have, and so it goes... We've never used those pet names either. I had reinforced right from the start what they were all called. B came home one day saying something about his "dinky" and I told him that's not what it's called... He said that my aunt and uncle had told him to call it that because it wasn't nice to say penis/vagina, and I said it was perfectly fine and normal, and that's what they're called. There's just no need to run around talking about our private parts, but when we do need to, we call them by what they are really called... You never hear of someone finding some silly name for their fingers and feet and ears, now do you? I was actually quite shocked that just before, he had no problem using the proper terms, then all of a sudden he comes home with silly names and I had a talk with my aunt about how it's necessary for him to know proper names for his own body parts, and body parts that everyone else has! It was funny because when I was talking to her, I might as well have been talking to my son OR your grandchildren! lol Back on topic... I had a hamster I named Charlotte, when I was about 8 (yes, from Charlotte's Web) and when we had, well, kinda, sorta smuggled some red eared sliders back home from BC, I took on the smallest turtle and I named him Wilbur, since he was the smallest and it went with Charlotte :D 'Wilbur' is now about 8-9" long, and to be honest, I can't tell him from the rest of the turtles left in the tank!
