Moving sucks

Hi everyone. Here we are, packing up *again*. This whole moving thing
gets really old. Of course, on Thursday, I go to Wales, so I won't
have any more moving to do here until I get back.

But when I get to Wales, we've got to pack up Paul's house.....

LOL

Moving does suck. It really truly does.

I sure can fit a lot into a small space, though!

Ha! lets see if this works.
I've tried about 5 different newreaders since the Berlin one started
charging but none of them can be seen by anyone but me.

Please reply if you can see this!

Thanks, dennis

Thanks for all the replies guys, at least I know I can get through via
google groups.
Lots going on here ATM. Currently on crutches with a ruptured achillies
tendon. Can't drive, can't work, can't dance, can't a few other things
as well ;-(
Life is generally good though. Hoping to meet Celia and Paul soon if
they make it over.
Spoke to Dolores a few days ago, she and the boys are fine.
Freddie finished school today for 9 weeks! I'm hobbling over to London
next week to drop him off with my sister for a weeks holiday with her.
Middle son just back to England from Italy. Eldest is in London too so
I'm trying to get us all together for one of those rare occasions.

Willhave more time for a few weeks so I'll type up a general post and
bring you up to date.

Awesome!

My daughter's going to No. Ireland (Belfast) around the middle of next
month. Last time I heard from her, she was in Zurich.  I'm so enjoying
her trip.

I'm 46, and the longest I've ever lived at any one address
consecutively is 36 months. Now you've got me going...I'm gonna
count....38. I've moved 38 times. And there are two more moves in my
immediate future. That's good, 'cause 40 is such a nice round number,
and even, and all that....

>I hope your move goes smoothly,

Once we *finally* got a truck, a bunch of T's friends came and they
were just delightful. They moved us in about four and a half hours,
including three sites, back and forth, and I bought 'em beer & pizza.
I only let 'em drink one beer each & made 'em take a couple of others
home rather than drink & drive. And yes, they were all legal. What a
good group of kids they are. Friends of T's boyfriend, mostly.

>I moved once while I was on holiday.

I once moved on Christmas eve with an eighteen month old. Another
time, a year later, I moved six weeks after a caesarian, with a
toddler and a newborn, a quadriplegic husband and me not supposed to
lift. That one was a real bugger.

>I booked the removal company and gave the keys to my friends and when I came
>back it was all done ;-)

Now THAT would be the way to move. If you could afford it. That's how
officers in the forces are moved, and how we did it when I was a kid.
But as an adult, I've been on my own. I think the worst move ever was
when I left the Yukon, with the biggest UHaul you're allowed to drive
on a regular license, pulling a dolly with the car behind it. It was a
stick shift diesel, and it actually wasn't all that bad to drive, but
you can only imagine what it was like *filling* the flipping thing
witha 3000 square foot house and only my 4'11", 98 lbs soaking wet
daughter to help. Took us about sixteen hours a day, for six days, and
the day before I drove out the Alaska highway is the only time in my
life I've ever literally shaken with exhaustion. After that, the three
day drive out was practically a holiday! 'Course, I did hit Vancouver
in rush hour driving this rig. It was pretty interesting.

Moving. What a pain. Damn, I'll be glad when we get a house. That's
that, then. Enough moving. I'm gonna grow roots.

OMG! OVER THE HILL MOVING!! 40 is a nice number.  At least you're older and
wiser than your moves ;)  I've only moved, I guess, a few times.  #1-born in
the house my parents rented when they married, then when I was 14 months
old, moved into house #2 that parents bought.  Lived there until I was 16 or
so.  Moved into, kinda, #3 which was this rooming house for teens right
after.  #4 was moving in with this support lady a couple weeks later, then
hated the lady because she was a crazy cat woman and moved in with a support
family a month before B was born, so that was kind of #5. Stayed there until
B was 2 months old, then got this small apartment for #6. #7 was then the
2bdrm apartment, and that was the first 'real' move I had with my own stuff
to pack into a moving truck.  Then got the townhouse we live in now, and
have been in #8 for 2 years now.  Now I am trying to move again since I
don't have the space here anymore and need a 3d bedroom.  I'm hoping to get
an emergency transfer ASAP, or move anywhere to just get out of here because
it's really worse than the Projects.
So, really, only had 2 real moves of packing and hauling.  I'm actually
hoping #3 real move comes really, really soon!

Hey, I drive stick that is diesel!  It's the best and I'd go no other way!
Nothing like wicked gas mileage ;) lol
I'd also recommend staying far, far away from Vancouver's rush hour.  Duh.
Like you need me to tell you that!  Vancouver = horrible driving on a good
day, not in rush hour.  Rush hour is insanity at its worst.

Oh boy. You gotta be kidding. We're really gonna enumerate?
ROFLMAOSC...Ok. Here you go:
1: Germany to Canada, on a Cunard liner, from a NATO base to Penhold,
Alberta, when I was not quite two.
2:Penhold to Red Deer, Alberta
3:Red Deer to Richmond, BC
4: Richmond  to Ottawa, Ontario
5:Ottawa to Toronto Ontario
6: Toronto to London Ontario
7: London to Olive St., in Victoria, BC
8: Olive St. to Howe St.
9: Howe St. to Shakespeare St.
10: Shakespeare St. to Olive St (again!)
11: Olive St. to Totem Park, Vancouver BC
12: Totem Park  to Victoria
13: Victoria to Gage Towers
14: Gage to Burnaby
15: Burnaby to East 36th
16:East 36th to Steves Manor
17: Steves to East 7th
18: East 7th, Vancouver, to Whitehorse, YT
19: Whitehorse to New Zealand, etc.
20: South Pacific/Asia to Clarke, Vancouver
21: Clarke to Champlain (Kerr), Vancouver
22: Champlain to Whalley (yes, I have actually lived in Whalley, car
theft capital of North America)
23: Whalley to Newton, Surrey, BC
24: Newton to Nanaimo BC (Hospital road apartment)
25: Hospital road to Fairview Drive
26: Fairview to Meadow Lane
27: Meadow Lane to Townsite
28: Townsite to Port Alberni, BC
29: Port to Merritt, BC

34: Alsek to Surrey, BC (Helston Cresc)
35: Helston to Surrey townhouses
36: townhouses to Chilliwack, BC
37: Chilliwack to Kerrisdale, BC
38: Kerrisdale to New Westminster
39: New West to Surrey (coming in August, when we get back from Wales)
40:right after that, hopefully within the year, when we get a new
house.

I hear ya. The townhouses above, #35, were subsidised and so was
Turner, #30. In both cases I was paying market, 'cause I was working,
but I was one of few, and I know how it can be. We were glad to leave,
especially the townhouses.

>So, really, only had 2 real moves of packing and hauling.  I'm actually
>hoping #3 real move comes really, really soon!

I do too, for you. But not so soon you're still dealing with a tiny
baby. Moves #23 & 25 above I did with really little ones. With #23 D
was 17 months and I was pregnant with T. With #25 D was 2 and T was
newborn, I was post caesarian, as previously described. You don't
wanna go there.

>THAT would be more than just interesting!

Yeah. The *real* kicker there, was that we got all moved in, and the
carpets had just been cleaned, so in desperation we set up the bed on
the lino in the kitchen. Got ourselves undressed and tucked in and I
realized I could NOT, absolutely COULD NOT sleep there. I'm very, very
severely allergic to cats. The previous owners had had cats, and the
carpet cleaning had somehow done something and I truly could not
breathe. Ended up in hospital getting ventolin, which I've done maybe
four times in my life, and then all of us, babies and all, going off
to a hotel 'til the carpet dried.

I know, you've driven me in your stick shift diesel. I can absolutely
guarantee you, however, having ridden in your car, that this rig
was...well....considerably bigger. I mean, we're talking a ratio  of a
mouse to a bull mastiff here. LOL

Got *that* right. The only good thing about living in an apartment
while we wait for the house in Wales to sell is that we get to check
out the traffic from the area at all times of day.

Only three more sleeps til I get on the plane....

That's all fine and dandy, but I want dates, now.   Dates and times, as well
as all the information that you have on each number.  :P lol

Sub-housing is just the Canadian way of saying The Projects.  I'm going to
stick with that because it's true.  lol  It's actually sad.  I'm now paying
absolute lowest, since I really have no income coming in now that I'm on
leave and not working.  My little income does make do, kind of, so I don't
know.  Can't wait to get back to work and actually feel like I have a life!
It's surprising how many people do NOT work (around here, anyways)... On the
side of the units where I live, and all the way down, there's only 2 people
who work, that's 3 including me when I was working.  There's also units
#37-45 on this row, making that 3 out of a possible 8 households that work,
or did work, and the rest, as long as I've been here, have never ever
worked.  They just sit around waiting for their GST rebates, baby cheques
and welfare cheques to come in.  I'm hoping to be able to get a transfer for
the time being.  I want to go back to school as soon as I can, then
hopefully, between Norm and I, we can save up enough money to get the hell
out of these places for good and never look back again!
But, for the time being, I'm willing to admit I'm just too poor to be able
to get out right now.  Staying in here and having a better chance of saving
some $$ is definitely the way I want to go, as it is right now.

Well, I'm high risk for a c-section again.  First was an emergency section
(footling breech) and second was a normal VB - I got lucky when he turned
around at 32 weeks, I believe it was.  That emergency one was hell, and
you're right, I do NOT want to go there!  But, if I can get a transfer ASAP,
I would be willing to make the plunge to move with a newborn no matter what.

>>>>I hope your move goes smoothly,
>>>
[quoted text clipped - 9 lines]
> Heh. Yeah. That's why I do it. After all this time, I know what works!

Of course it does.  Nothing goes better than a move than a free meal, and
especially beer and pizza.  We - when I say we, I really mean more Norm -
helped my cousin move.  I was fairly useless, but B and I did help put the
clothes up in the closet and some other things that makes sense to  put the
useless ones to work doing!  My cousin picked up KFC and that was nice.

[quoted text clipped - 14 lines]
> four times in my life, and then all of us, babies and all, going off

Yikes!  You'd have died in my place only months ago!  I was up to something
like 12 cats - my 3 babies and a litter of 9 kittens.  Finally found homes
for ALL the kittens by the time they were about 10 weeks old, and I gave my
other 3 babies to the grandpa of the kid I went to school with... His dad
works with my mom, and the grandpa was a single old guy out on an acreage
and was looking for a cat.  He was willing to take all 3 of them, so I
couldn't pass that offer up of keeping all the cats together.  Everyone
wants kittens, not adult cats, so yea, it worked out perfect.  I'm now just
stuck with the one and only female kitten of the litter, which is the one
cat that B wouldn't part with, and one cat I can handle.  12 I could not.  I
also didn't want to take the risk of running a disgusting cat house and
getting booted out of here!

DIESEL POWER!  90hp but tons of torque!  lol  My friend has a pair of
Mastiffs.  They're great.  I had a pair of mice not long ago.  See the
connection?  Wait... I don't... Must be all the diesel fumes I've been
smelling from that car ever since I've taken a disgusting liking to the
smell of diesel and gas fumes... They just smell so good, and only a month
ago, they used to make me feel sick.  Mmm... Exhaust... lol

Then again, I also hate planes, but just the thought of taking off for a

oh my my.

And I'm entrusting my precious oldest daughter with YOU THREE?
:-) She's there, safe, and enjoying the weather.
Only someone from Houston could enjoy the weather in London, eh?

I sent her over the pond cell to ya via ICQ, Cele. She's heading to
Paris tomorrow.

Hugs to you both. Safe trip, Cele.
