A friend once shared with me a theory about that. He claims that children
are energy vampires; sucking all the livelieness out of the adults who care
for them so that they (the children) can have limitless energy to use to
test the limits of the adults' patience. I see strong evidence supporting
this theory...

I'm in fear of that. It seems to already be starting with my 11 year old
son...

I'm looking forward to visits with my grandchildren (someday, a long time
from now..) when I can spoil them rotten and send them home! "But Daaddd,
Grampa lets me do that!" LOL!

> LMAO......THAT is excatly what my Dad did... I had my lads washed and
scrubbed, in bed by 7pm, good healthy breakfast and very few sweets, coke
etc........
I let them home for their first holiday with Granda and Granma.......and
guess what.......... tea and biscuits first thing in the morning followed (I
stress followed) by rashers, sausages and fried bread etc. They never went
to bed before ten, and they only needed to open their eyes with delight and
my Dad would buy it for them... He spoilt them pure rotten, but loved the
very socks off them. I have some wonderful memories of the love my Dad had
for my two boys and so do they.

Now that's _exactly_ what I hope to do someday. And the hope of that day
existing at some point in the future is pretty much the only thing that
keeps me going when things get tough here in the present. When my 11 year
old insists that he can't exist without some sort of mindless video game, or
when my 2 year old throws himself back in a tantrum and howls for 20
minutes, or when my 8 year old takes a foul attitude with me - I have an
inner voice which says "just wait until I have your kids over for a visit -
it'll be candy and video games all day long!" I can't help but to grin
sometimes when I think like that, and they notice the grin and seem to know
that I'll have my day..... someday.......
