Pending Difficulty with YS's BF

YS turned 16 April 1.  He immediately began looking for a job.  He
landed one with a brand new restaurant that is opening next week.  Now,
here comes the difficulty.

YS still hasn't talked to BF about the job.  I mentioned it to BF
yesterday when I called to see if they'd mailed the CS due April 1, so
that I can pay YS's April and May tuition for his science classes.  I
didn't tell BF what YS's been talking to me about, since it's something
I feel that YS needs to bring up himself.

Because YS now has a job, he's considering either not going to visit BF
this summer or cutting the visit *much* shorter than usual.  I've
prompted him to call and talk to BF about it, but he keeps putting it
off.

Any suggestions on how to handle this?  I've a suspision that it's not
going to go as smoothly as OS telling his BM that when he and YD go to
visit again they need her to not drink, smoke, or yell around them, and
her deciding that she couldn't afford to fly them out for a visit.

TIA,

Kitten

Hey Kitten,

It's not going to go well.  Just know that in advance.  I mean really, with
so many issues between you guys anyway, and now YS is growing up and wants
to get off the merry-go-round.  Can't blame him, but I can't blame dad for
being upset about it.  It sucks when you aren't your kid's priority.
Nothing you can do or say will make it go well.

That being said, you need to think about who should have this conversation.
Dad reacts badly if surprised, am I remembering that right?  Or will he take
anything better coming from YS (versus coming from you).  Figure out how it
will be easiest on your son - with you giving dad a heads-up first, or you
staying completely out of it.  Then do that.   If you have to go to court
about it, you'll win, but just be prepared, if dad really flips out, to do
that.

Good luck,
Rebecca
