Caitriona Mac Fhiodhbhuidhe - 13 Jul 2006 22:55 GMT
Two more days until we fly him to Wisconsin.  I stopped by TF's house
to get the money I'd given to OS for a new photo ID the other day,
knowing he'd not gotten the ID and my gas tank was red-lining.  Chewy's
pay-day is tomorrow, so we can go for the ID then.

He'd not had a cigarette all day and AFAIK it's been several days since
he's had any of the other stuff he'd gotten into over the past 3
months, so he was jonesing badly.  When I first walked in, he seemed
OK, but I opened my mouth to joke with him a bit about the volume of
his music.  Wrong move.  If I'd known he wasn't doing well, I'd have
kept my mouth shut.

Suddenly, we were back to *everything* under the sun being my fault -
the predicament he's in now, all the bad decisions he's made, us living
on a farm, having household rules (I'll take the responsibility for
htat one!), etc.

I'm just an awful, awful, evil witch.  See me cackle.  OI!

Two more days.

He really needs to be in rehab, but he's 18yo.  I don't think we can
force him into that.  He's not hit bottom hard enough to realize just
how badly he's doing.

It's not just the stuff he's been doing in the past 3 months, either.
He did this when Chewy and I decided to eliminate white breads and
pastas from our household diet.  He went through horrid withdrawals on
that one.  He really needs medical help, but he doesn't want it.
<sigh>

Even before he turned 18, there wasn't really anything we could have
done, short of having him put in a residential facility, that could
have helped, simply because he doesn't see the need for it... yet.

Not much we can do but let him know we're here when he's ready, to pray
for him, and to ask others to pray for him.

I really hope this move will be beneficial for him.  I know it will be
beneficial for you!  It's got to suck walking around on eggshells all the
time.  (((Kitten)))

Thanks, Jenny.

He got to WI alright.  Friday evening, we picked him up on our way to
get YD's scrip filled ($57 co-pay!! ouch!) and all went to dinner.  On
the way to the airport Saturday, Chewy stopped and bought him a phone
card to add minutes to the cell he'd purchased (after he'd quit his job
and had no money????).  With that, he was able to call Chewy as he was
boarding the plane, then when he got to O'Hare, then when he got to WI.

Last night, Chewy got a phone call from OD.  Apparently, the only thing
OS packed in addition to the clothes on his back was a pair of shoes, a
pair of pants, a few changes of underwear, and some socks.  Regardless,
he left his grandmother's house on foot yesterday to make a 10-mile
round trip walk on which he picked up job applications.  OD said that
MIL was going to take him today to purchase a couple of decent shirts,
since the only shirt he has up there is the A-shirt he was wearing when
he left here.

I overheard Chewy telling OD that he'd not realized that he needed to
pack for an 18yo.

Anyhow, OS will be staying with MIL for a few days, until OD gets a bed
for him.  AFAIK, Chewy's not told her *not* to get a bunkbed for him,
nor to let SIL deal with any "bad days" OS may have.  Hopefully that
won't be an issue up there.  I worry that he'll have a "bad day" around
MIL.  She's in her 70's and doesn't need to deal with anything like
that.

<snipped>

Well, it's totally up to him now Kitten, whether he makes good use of this
opportunity or not. I hope and pray that he gets his head on straight and
doesn't get mixed up with the kind of people who will keep him in trouble.
Hopefully his sister and BIL will be able stay stable. Time will tell.

Hugs,
Mika
