I'm sorry, Kitten.  You worked so hard at this; never wonder if you couldn't
have done a little more.  You did everything you could, and then you kept on
trying.

I'm glad YD is with you, if you are too.

She's been going to the same counselor he was seeing. She's continuing
with her appts and doing what the counselor tells her to.  She decided
she doesn't want to live her life the way she's seen him live his.
She's made a TON of progress in the last month.

She and I are working on a budget this weekend and considering renting
out the 2 spare bedrooms.

Where is Chewy now?

He's staying with his drinking buddy.

Oh.  That sounds like a good choice.

Another good choice on his part - sometime yesterday, he called OD and
gave her some sad story about how YD and I kicked him out and got her
to feeling upset for him.  OD in turn called YD and laid into her.  YD
told me that when she could finally get a word in edgewise, she told
OD that he'd started counseling and had started getting better, so I
moved back home; and then he stopped counseling and started getting as
bad as he was when they lived up north, before I met them.

I don't know how that's all going to shake out, but it bothers me that
he's using OD to try to make YD feel guilty about standing up for
herself and making a decision to get healthy, with or without him.

I'm sorry you've had to give up the future you wanted with Chewy, Kitten. I
hope peace and happiness begin to fill your life from now on.

That YD is staying with you is probably good for her, I'm less certain it's
good for you. However, I think you did take on some responsibility for her
as her stepmother so I'd feel uncomfortable with the idea if you'd dropped
her!  I just wonder if you've promptly filled the hole in your life that
Chewy has left with his eviction. Make sure you look after yourself and your
son, as well!

Best,
Tai

As I'd said a couple months ago, where our relationship went was up to
her.  Since she got into counseling, she's grown quite a bit.  She's
taking responsibility for herself and her own happiness.  That's made
all the difference in the world in our relationship.

I'm trying to keep busy and not let that hole fill in too quickly.  I
don't want to do some rebound thing.

YD and I have made a kind of pact - she's going to help me keep my
head on straight wrt not rebounding and I'm going to help her not
become a workahaulic at her job.  I think we'll do alright.
