I am with a wonderful man who has two young daughters aged 6 and 4. i get
along great with the youngest but i am finding it extremely hard to get on
with the eldest daughter. She is hard work as she wont do a thing anyone
tells her including parents, grandparents and teachers. She pushes with
everything, always wants to be centre of attention and nobody seems to be
able to get through to her. She is very bright

Could be that she is bored with doing what's expected of her age group.
Sometimes an extremely intelligent kid is ill-behaved becuz they aren't being
challenged intellectually. The answer may lie somewhere in giving her more
intellectual challenges, while finding an effective means of discipline for
when she acts up. Maybe there's a counselor at school who can help?
